Unusual Bicycles: The Convercycle
It folds out in the back to a longtail cargobike. I think it's an interesting concept for urban population that could make space for a regular bicycle, but not an actual cargo bike - I know I've been in that situation and it's an often mentioned problem in discussion about cargo bike useage.
You can see it in motion on their website, works pretty much like a brompton at a glance. Maximum system weight is 180kg, the bike weighs 38kg in electric mode, so depending on your weight that should give you at least around 40kg of hauling capacity
That's cool as hell. That would be so convenient.
As always, I fantasize about having something like this but then realize I could never park a $5k bike in public without having a panic attack. The converted mode makes it look slightly less like a target though, which I like.
I would love for this to become a standard design though. Maybe get down into price ranges I'd be comfy parking.
Every time there's a new tax rebate or other scheme to toss give or take $10.000 or local equivalent at car drivers I think about how many cargo e-bikes that would've bought and how it could kickstart that sector
Yeah, not only that, but if parking infrastructure money was dumped into workable solutions for bikes, instead of just having to hitch to a pole.
