That's because "Kurds" is a really large group, and they all have other ideas. Middle eastern identity isn't nearly as basic as western national identity. The idea that you're on someone's side simply because you were born on one side of an imaginary line is ridiculous, you're on someone's side because you have some kind of relationship with them.
