Getting some weird hardware to work with Linux pales in comparison to what O'Brien had to deal with.

I like to imagine dozens of empty threads created on Linux forums by Obrien with no comments except his saying:
Never mind, I fused an EPS relay bypass and wrote some new drivers for the Cardassian micro controller.

Maybe that is what all those ancient texts are referring to ... an ancient space faring civilization that was powerful and capable in so many things ... and it all hinged on the work of one engineer they named 'Atlas' .... an ancient 'O'Brien'
Maybe in 4,000 years our descendants will talk about how a mythical character held our world together and that we called him 'O'Brien'
