It's a great story executed well that happens to be set in the Star Wars universe. That's what we need more of.
- That and realism. It's a pretty big departure from the bigger than life, fantasy stories of most Star Wars. Shows an honest portrait of how utterly brutal life is in the Galaxy for the regular people on both sides. Andor living in a PK Dick like dystopia, and LT Dedra in the ISB knowing failure is death like "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" in space.
- It is the first Disney EU story that’s as good as the original EU stories. Most of the Disney stuff feels like Disney stuff. Andor is gritty like the original EU.
I don't love star wars. But the first minutes of the first Andor episodes had me hooked
The way it's filmed is incredible. It makes me feel like I was there. I can suspend disbelief of whether a heist or other hijinks were realistic because it's a fictional universe and can't know it would work anyways. All the broad strokes of the universe have been fleshed out so nobody has to explain backstory or too much world building.
All the camera angles are from a human perspective, hardly any sweeping drone like shots. Just a view of what it's like to be there. I loved it l. I can't wait for more like this.
