Trump says he has directed US Treasury to stop minting new pennies, citing rising cost

Maybe not nefarious, since it's been a public idea for decades. He does like to put forward those ideas like he's the one that thought of it. This one's a net positive so let's just let him play with the unplugged controller on this one.

Unless it turns out he and/or Elon bought something with copper. Which wouldn't surprise me.

We voted for it years and years ago, it just goes into effect now

I'm against cashless society, but I'm also for getting rid of the penny. We should have done it at least a decade ago. I carry cash and keep some change in my car, the penny is worthless.
