the last 83 changes musk made to the website have only ever made it worse but this clearly bad 84th idea is going to completely change the platform for the better, trust me guys
During discussing twitter in a pub a person was quite angry that I didn't refer to the bird site with the name likes so much. The same person sometimes argues that dead naming is not a problem, till the new name is accepted by the state in official registries and the person got an ID with that.
The last 83 changes were supposed to kill Twitter but I keep hearing from people on Twitter about how nobody should be using Twitter at this point. Surely this 84th nail will be the final one in the coffin.
He could easily get a few million chuds to pay him money for the dopamine hit of seeing their last tweet got 84 trillion views and likes on a website that used to be dominated by libs.
If it's not dead already I don't see how it ever dies.
It should have been a ghost town 2 weeks after musk took over but people are so addicted to it everybody keeps talking about how Twitter is done for on Twitter.
Not really sure why there's anybody left at the nazi bar other than nazis at this point.
I also never had an account but that's just a layman's outside perspective.
Elon taking over had a relatively small effect on the material conditions of the average user. Charging everybody to use twitter would be a huge change.
He's one of the world's richest people, ridiculously powerful, controls absurd amounts of high tech real capital assets, and has thousands of followers
Winning is silly in this context, but Twitter is not dead or dying anytime soon, I no longer believe this for some time now. It will eventualy die, I recommend reading about "enshittification" starting here The ‘Enshittification’ of TikTok it is an amazing article realy and yes the length is worth it.
IMO the internet is now the same like 3-4 websites and to break this would require a convenient alternative that people can jump to. That Meta clone could have been it but it was "enshittified" by default lol.
Nobody goes from Twitter to Reddit or from there to Facebook etc because these platforms are so old the only new users are people "new" to the market e.g the global south getting first access to internet/social media or literal teenagers.
The point then is IMO Twitter wont die easily because people simply wont move away because there is no alternative.
So TL;DR he is not winning lol but Twitter is not dying anytime soon either despite what we all believed at first.
I think Twitter will die on financial terms, if nothing else. They were already mostly making a loss before taking on a loan with huge repayments (and I mean huge). Moves like this aren't just performative, Twitter is bleeding huge amounts of money, and needs to up its revenue enormously, quickly.
Yeah, plus payment info is also pretty significant in terms of identifying information, unless they were willing to provide gift cards in physical stores or something. There would need to be a huge legislative push to get them to give up data collection at the same time for any net benefit.
What scares me more than Twitter pulling these stunts is YouTube. Like, Twitter going down would hurt a lot of artists and creatives and break apart a lot of connections, and it'd be pretty harsh on a lot of people. YouTube going down would be a calamity across government, education, technology, entertainment, and more as billions of tutorials, educational clips, public announcements, etc are wiped off the face of the planet. And the fact that it needs ads and data harvesting to continue existing has possibly been one of the biggest drivers for Google to continue pushing features that lock down the web browser. There is nothing that can stop it except some massive government mobilization (which we can't exactly trust the US government to do alone).
i dont get the comments about killing twitter, its literally been incredibly important for organizing and would be a big loss for many organizations unfortunately
