The "range extender" version isn't an ev, it's a hybrid.
20 1 ReplyIt's not a hybrid, it's an EREV. There is a small gasoline generator that can recharge the batteries while driving to extend the range. This is very different from a hybrid which has a gasoline engine that drives the drivetrain, and electric motors to drive the vehicle under low acceleration and for relatively short distances.
11 7 ReplyStrictly speaking, it's classified as a "series hybrid" powertrain.

12 0 ReplySo really just a subclassification of hybrid (a different path for the hydrocarbon energy source to drive the wheels).
7 0 ReplyIts still a hybrid just a different kind
6 1 ReplyIs it wholly isolated or can it in fact power acceleration in certain cases like other famous examples often have? Chevy Volt, etc.

Aaaaarg, another car with no buttons This isn't blade runner, what are these jackass designers thinking?
13 1 ReplyAnd given Mazda's history with electronics, I worry about longevity.
They did partner with Toyota, so there is some degree of confidence granted by that.
I say that as a current Mazda owner and a fan of the brand.
7 0 ReplyMaaan, I hope someone releases a decent EV sedan one of these days, at this rate I'll be converting my current car once its engine gives up the ghost
4 1 ReplyConfidence? In Toyota electronics?
