Hundreds of Kansas City Tenants Will Strike to Demand Repairs, Rent Caps
Tenants voted to withhold rent on October 1 in a rent strike that could catch fire nationwide.
There's no accountability for landlords that don't honor their side of the contact. The only recouse a tenant has is to move and sue for associated costs. If you don't know the process then the landlord will try to sue for lost rent.
Some states allow tenants to pay for emergency repairs if they give the landlord proper notice first. Then they can withhold the cost from their rent.
There's a huge problem with the types of people in the real estate industry and there's no accountability.
Wow this is the first I’ve heard of a tenant union! I think it’s only natural things like this will arise as affordability continues to decline for rents. And shitty landlords that won’t respond and fix broken things they are responsible for? Fuck them completely
Tenant unions and rent strikes are wild. There was a funny reddit screenshot that was going around during the pandemic that I cannot find, but I remember it being the icon for a podcast, which I found and linked. It’s a good source on what rent strikes could do and critiques of its use.
