Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 142,000 in August, and the unemployment rate changed little at 4.2 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
Not great but not terrible. Will be interesting to see if we get a 0.25 or 0.5 rate cut. I’d argue for a 0.5 to be on the safer side, but the “bureaucratic inertia” is definitely on the 0.25 side.
