The person's screaming in pain, the life support is flashing red, the patient is dying due to incredibly foreseeable causes that they would happily prevent, were it not for their doctors having a vested interested in making it happen. They may be alive, but the patient is dying and loudly protesting, and the doctors clearly don't give a shit - Damn right I'm gonna start working out what those levers do and try to change 'em.
the global working class isn't supported by capitalism
socialists aren't random people walking into a hospital fiddling with life support
capitalism isn't keeping people clothed and fed
people are clothing and feeding themselves by selling their labor power to a capitalist for less than it is worth in order to scrape together enough currency to purchase necessities of life
socialists do in fact understand economics
marx studied the physiocrats, adam smith, david ricardo, mill, malthus, economic statistics, health statistics, legal documents like the factory acts, etc. for 20 years before finishing Capital
imperialism, the highest stage of capitalism is full of economic data
any socialist who writes on unequal exchange or imperialism tends to cite international trade data
some of the bourgeoisie's economic hitmen have come forward and admitted what they do for the ruling class in their memoirs
the CIA and other intelligence agencies in capitalist nations have come forward and declassified their many efforts to sabotage the development of socialist countries through means including but not limited to: assassination, genocide, drug-running, spying, sanctions, coups, embargoes, loans, proxy wars, invasion, colonization, industrial sabotage, agricultural sabotage, poisoning the population, and arming fifth-columnists
capitalism already causes millions of deaths, mainly through social murder 🦶🗒️
socialism doesn't cause deaths, capitalism's sabotage of attempts to do socialism causes millions of deaths
capitalism regularly throws people out of work, privatizes people's means of subsistence, forces people to go into debt and take on internships before they can even find gainful employment, appropriates people's surplus value, etc.
it's such a fucking asinine analogy. i'm sure tons of fart sniffing bourgeois looking for reassurance that the exploitation they do is morally good are thrilled to read it.
hooooly shit this person is comparing the """"""work""""""" economists do to that of doctors
economists are the definition of fiddling with levers. marxian economists are the closest to actual scientifically understanding economies (because materialism and political economy) and even that's a stretch
As pointed out in that thread, "life support" has a double meaning
Life support e.g aboard a ship it is the combination of all systems responsible for maintaining a safe environment for the crew.
Life support e.g someone in bad/critical condition being kept alive through medical equipment.
OP does not realize the second meaning is just a huge self-own as it is an admission modern capitalism is only barely keeping everyone alive instead of creating wealth and prosperity for all.
It is even worse when you realize wait a minute that is actually a very good analogy, capitalism is definitely the only reason why we have billions of people that can barely afford to live and many more ultimately fail and the "life support" system just stops working for them i.e you end up homeless, get murdered, die of hunger etc...
Capitalists: would you enter the infant ward of a hospital and start stealing food from the babies? Unplugging IV drips and hiding formula until they paid you money? Turning off incubators and demanding rent from a 2 week old?
Of course you would you fucking pigs, because you're greedy and don't care about human life.
Socialist countries, famously not training or incorporating doctors, scientists, engineers, mathematicians, or economists, much like Cuba, the USSR, and China
At first I thought this was in reference to anti-vaxxers storming hospital rooms and messing with the equipment inside because they thought that the medical staff were trying to kill the patients via the “plandemic.” This sort of thing still happens I believe.
Going into a hospital where everything is made of brass and leather and pulling levers on the machinery that is covered in gears and has steam whistles on it
Somehow all the levers of the economy are entirely undocumented, save for the hundreds (thousands?) of universities with economics and poli-sci departments in the United States. Not one of them took to the onerous job of describing what the levers do.
Seriously I know the fields of Econ and Poli-sci are bullshit, but we all know that some familiarity with the liberal economic and political systems is required to overtake it (i.e. you might need to legitimize power through both/either means, at least temporarily). Marx, Lenin, et al were familiar with the economic and political ideas of the states they lived in.
I'm sure that everyone's covered the major areas for dunks but the framing of this is so entirely idealistic and downright lib.
The idea that this "life support" system exists as some platonic ideal rather than being a aggregate effect of mass-scale 24/7 tampering from all angles - shareholders, governments and supranational organisations, corporations, policy makers, the filthy rich etc. is just baffling.
Honestly it comes off as very Petersonian in that I feel as though it's ressentiment being filtered through terminally-lib brainrot; you know how Peterson is constantly exhorting his audience not to seize power and that if they think they'd be oh so much more enlightened as a leader or a head of state well think again, Bucko!! We are all evil and corrupt and selfish so if you did happen to seize power your worst insticts would immediately be amplified by the power you wield and it would inevitably lead to your and/or society's ruin so sit down, shut up, and keep to your station in life?
This post has the exact same arch-conservative
energy.
"Don't you dare try to intervene in the economy! If you presume to then you are arrogant and power-hungry and your attempts to make positive change are surely doomed because this mystical economic system is far too complex for your tiny primate brain."
It's a siren song to anyone who has any inclination towards making change in society.
lmao MILLIONS of deaths over DECADES?? good thing we definitely aren't going to witness that under the global neoliberal regime. Or if we are, then obviously they were unavoidable, because we live in the best of all possible worlds. I can't make even the most basic, obvious critiques of the abuses of the status quo taking place right in front of my eyes. it's actually mature and smart to accept the self justifying logic of authority without question.
It is capitalism, not economistism or whatever. Capital decides fate of the economy, not economists or government. Economists only advise government what to do, their advices are only advices and in this status quo they can be ignored by presidents. And capital is not highly trained proffesional who knows what they are doing like a doctor (see Elon Musk) most likely they inherited that wealth. Even if they are, extremely rich people did not gather their wealth by being charitable, they are probably most greedy people and they will only act according to their interests
This has already been said, but it cannot be emphasized enough that neoliberalism fits perfectly into this metaphor as the health insurance company wedging itself in as a middle-man to leech off of everyone and decide on its whims and margins who lives and dies based on who it wants to throw scraps to. Ownership is not a job and the proletariat's being sustained is not predicated on them not owning things, either in common or divided amongst them, but rather having a few ghouls claim private ownership over every inch of land and every miligram of raw material on the planet.
Gee, it sure sounds like an appeal that the abductor would use to try to leverage a hostage situation. "You wouldn't want them to get hurt... would you?"
Beyond the absurdity of using a hospital patient as a metaphor, it also serves to ridicule it's own position: A hospital patient is dying, you the doctor offer to save the patient by giving them medicine. This person ridicules you for even trying and casts you as a murderer if you fail.
This argument is also projecting. It casts the socialist as not knowing what they are doing by messing with "levers that no one could possibly understand". Yet the post implies that those unknowable levers are a perfect analogue to a patient who is hooked up to what is clearly an understandable apparatus of life support. It sounds like the argument doesn't not in fact know what those nebulous levers are, yet describes the socialist position as clueless to the "complexity of society".
Better not try to fix the dying machine. It's death is certain, but trying to save it is uncertain, and that's too scary.
The reason socialism doesn’t work is because it inevitably causes people to start eating babies and smothering patients in hospital beds. It makes sense though because this is what Marx wanted. Anyone who pretends otherwise is simply unable to understand Econ 101
Because this country just kind of irredeemably sucks ass in general and I unironically actually would rather cause a catastrophic collapse that kills millions than sit here and try to live with this garbage for another however many years i've got. Besides, what gives all the other people who do just that their license to do so?
If that switch is on I'm flipping it off. If that lever is off I'm turning it on. If there's a big red button you can be damn sure I'm pressing it twice.
I'm trying to think of a counterpart to match this insane argument... Ok so, then they're implying that the bourgeoisie are Rocket Surgeon Lawyers? Anyways... We run all this shit already, we keep the goddamn clocks ticking. Even the dumbest effort of improvement will outdo the anarchy of the market.
