I don't mean work in progress stuff. I mean a place of glory for the unshareable, the embarrassments, the failures, the projects you shelved years ago but won't restart or let go of entirely; preferably with a humorous meme twist or mascot. Am I the only one that would find this therapeutic and interesting? Ideas?
That would be cool! One thing I've noticed was that we have a lot of small hobby / making communities that are hard to find and grow. It would be cool to have some general communities for that.
I was thinking of making something like !showFediverse, for when you want to show off something you made. Whether it's a FOSS project, a little home DIY thing, or a pile of mashed potatoes.
Would be nice to have a similar community for things that didn't go as well. It might motivate people to try more things, since only seeing "successes" hides the full picture.
If you're looking for a name, dontlookFediverse could be a nice parallel. Doesn't matter what you go with, I'm happy to link to it (unless my community ends up in the unfinished bin too)
I don't know that I could come up with enough to really contribute to a community, but just because this post made me think of it:
“Polehenge” was a Michigan roadside curiosity located north of St. Johns along US-127. It consisted of over 30 poles standing in a field, reminiscent of the famous Stonehenge, but with wooden poles instead of stone monoliths. I used to drive past it multiple times per summer.
No one really knew what it was or why it was there. The most common story is that Polehenge was the remains of an unfinished pole barn, possibly abandoned due to the swampy land or issues with building permits. It wasn't near any other structures, so it seemed like an odd place for a barn to me, but I'm no farmer.
After standing for decades, in 2020, Polehenge was finally torn down, ending its legend forever.
What if they're finished and abandoned before I release them? Heck, I have a Raspberry Pi router, complete with mobile app to select VPNs and Tor, a website, FAQ, all made like 8-10 years ago that I just never launched. Maybe I'll dig that up.
Or the Chess.com API for the chess board, all the software was done on that, too. Hmmmm
