I tried to get a rando mutt from the shelter but the person disqualified me for not having a fancy fenced in back yard and having to work to sustain myself. (I thinknit was more she thought I was straight person over the phone, misgendered me, and it went downhill once she realized it was a gay couple) It was emotionaly devistating.
Seriously I'm never getting a pure bread. My sister dog is a total mutt, he's the size of a large raccoon but can run like 20 miles per hour and is so strong he nearly knocked me over playing tug of war once. I don't get why people want sickly mutant dogs, they have no quality of life.
I used to have a random black lab from a shelter that was supposedly a mutt but looked just like a big black lab. He was my best friend and I miss him every day :(

It's not really about the dog itself it's a lot about why an owner would specifically choose the dog that has this reputation. People say it's a "violent" breed, which is pretty much nonsense but nonetheless if someone believes it and specifically picks this breed it's a massive yikes
I would caution, pitbulls are exceptionally strong and have a tendency to not know their own strength and play rough. I do feel if you're gonna get one you have a duty to train it well because it can injury people, even without misbehaving.
Yes totally, when I said they're not inherently violent it's not that they're not dangerous it's that they aren't more genetically predisposed to aggressivity than any other breed
I have 3 pitbull girfriends that are total love sponges. Not mine but friends family and they can be the sweetst things.
Yeah it's all about how you raise them, a lot of people don't realise that tho and get pitbulls because they fantasize about owning a killing machine

The real answer is that labs and golden retrievers are extremely good natured and thus good with kids. They thus became the default dog for a lot of people. I don't really care for either breed, personally, but that is why
I like labs, I just think all dogs are good dogs.
Their agreeableness also means they get used in advertising and media a lot. It's better to have a calm, easier to train dog on an active TV set. Hence a lot of dog food adds and family sitcoms have a golden retriever as the star pet.
I think Afghanistan and USA should partly merge cultures and red states inexplicably begin keeping dogs outside.
They already do that, my neighbor's dog comes over every day to get water and treats and a/c and to hide from rain

Labs are kind of the best dogs though, I love them. I love all dogs but labs do sort of push a light switch in my brain, they're just so adorable. Golden retrievers don't even really hit the same, despite being similar. Labs are just so good though, you know?
Amend to state very pro lab based mutt which in my experience just tend to be an easy, good breed of dog for whatever purpose you want a dog for.
