@bitfucker Over the next 2 years we plan to organize events like this with volunteers around the world. If you would like to get involved, be in touch!
Thanks for the information! Unfortunately, linux users are small in my country. There are rarely any events held here. But this is giving me an idea on how to help people revive their old hardware!
Would you be able to deal with a locked bootloader on Asus ROG Phone 5? I would be so happy to degoogle. Any of the Linux Mobile options would be even better. It's 500km for me though.
This is a fantastic project and I wish you the best of luck with it and hope you have lots of attendees.
I do think there is a business opportunity (or perhaps a charitable one) of refurbishing/reselling older machines by doing just what your seminars are doing, but installing Linux and then selling the machine. Many people could use a machine that costs less than say, $200, but is still very functional for everyday usage.
In the project we are embracing and onboarding participants to the many choices one has with Linux, meaning we can tailor the software to the needs of the users themselves!
For newer devices we suggest Fedora (KDE / GNOME) or Linux Mint. For 10+ years old devices Linux Mint XFCE or Lubuntu.
We will try to understand what they want / expect (classic feel? consistent interfaces? newest features? etc.). We will have some demo computers to try out.
