Trying to extort the federal government like that seems like a really quick way to end up with your face, phone number and home address in a press release, along with a note from the NSA that basically says "this guy has $33 million in Bitcoin, would be a shame if someone kicked in his door and beat him with a bat until he gave up the keys :)"
Putting those LockBit people assigned - what has happened to those who caused the data breach? Microsofts buggy software, incompetent admins, stupid users, TLAs who store away known vulnerabilities instead of getting them fixed, etc.?
Maybe the IRS can offer them a tax break.
Wasnt some major face of lockbit arrested?
- As long as one of them has a copy of that data, threats to publish them actually pose a threat.
