Watching G*mers slowly realise Skyrim is dogshit has been an experience
I was watching "...why Skyrim?" by Razbuten on sloptube this aft and it's so weird that it finally took Starfield for people to realise. Like Fallout 76 wasn't enough, only now are negative things people were first saying about Skyrim in 2012 finally bleeding into mainstream consciousness. It's so wild, like wow they ruined the magic system? The game has worse writing than a PS1 era Mega Man X game??? Skyrim is just shitty Game of Thrones?? Welcome to thirteen years ago!!
Bethesda hasn't made a really good game since 2002, but it'll probably be years before that realisation sinks in.
I dunno, I enjoy vanilla Morrowind, Oblivion, F3 and NV just fine. Granted they can all be improved considerably, but at its core each is at least decent.
Playing Bethesda games on consoles is always a mistake. But then, I think playing anything on consoles is a mistake. Handhelds are the only dedicated video game machines I respect.
Even the vanilla experience is improved with mods, as others have mentioned, with bug fixes, performance tweaks, or simply graphics improvements if you have the headroom.
I tend not to go too crazy with my load orders, just improve whats there and add stuff to fill the gaps, so I agree with you on enjoying vanilla up to a point.
Which is great but I don't have bug problems or performance problems with Skyrim, I have "the main quest is dogshit" problems, I have "magic is now awful" problems, I have "the art direction is so bland" problems. I like adding The Living Desert and Real Recoil and Desert Natural Weathers and stuff to NV...
I suppose I'm not understanding what you're saying then. I say people should be modding the games and you say they're fine, I say you don't have to change a lot and you say you change a lot.
Well what I mean is, a game like Oblivion or NV are enjoyable at their base, but benefit from a little touching up or garnish. Skyrim is rotten at its base, the core game is Not Good so why mod it? You'd have to replace everything about it.
