Linux Crack Tips
- Mariokart 8 Deluxe emulation
I'm considering buying a steam deck, which runs Linux, but also wish to play Mariokart 8 Deluxe. I've seen it be done, so I know its possible, but does anybody know about the DLC/ playing online?
Thanks in advance
- Can you play cracked games using the Steam launcher?
As the title says, if someone theoretically wanted to play a cracked game on Linux (not me), could they use the official Steam launcher, or would they have to use Lutris?
- What is your usual procedure?
Where do you download? Excluding particular cases, what are the common steps you take to make most games playable? Where do you keep and launch your collection?
I know there are in-depth guides but I wanted a more genuine commentary on your experience.
- Lutris with Dying Light 2 - Exit code 768
So...Yeah. Fitgirl's repack seems to install correctly without crashes. But...I get exit code 768 almost instantly after starting it. I get to see for less than a fraction of a second the Dying Light launcher banner, which disappears immediately, and the runner stops with exit code 768 and no visible errors. What can I do? AMD 7700 32GB RAM with AMD 7800XT. Running Lutris on Nobara.
- slow download speed
torrent speed is too slow with an avg of 600kb/s for me can we have files on servers such as google onedrive for faster downloads
- This community is the most important for videogames preservation
Think about it, Linux is the most future-proof OS, not threatened by companies or commercial interests, and the same can be said for Lemmy in the world of decentralized communication for topics of interest. Without these two things the preservation of video games would be greatly in danger.
- Adding jc414x releases to Lutris is not working.
The jonhcena141 launchers page says that you can add the startup script to Lutris as a native executable, but when I try, The following error appears:
> > > The file /home/(Username)/Games/(game)/start.n.sh is not executable > >
Does anyone know how to make it work?
- Any idea how to properly install mods in Oblivion on Linux?www.nexusmods.com Oblivion Stutter Remover
OBSE required. For Oblivion version 1.2.416 only. Makes Oblivion not stutter so much, improves stability.
I've been trying to install Oblivion Stutter Remover using the proper documentation given for the mod that says I just need to unzip the folder where the mod came and drag it into my Data/ folder inside my Oblivion folder.
I have done everything it says but there is no difference at all, in fact the mod is not working at all since the mod locks the fps at 60 and I have almost 300 fps.
Maybe someone with more experience can help me with this? Thanks.
- I'm struggling to get a game to work on my Steam Deck (Astlibra Revision).
For some strange reason, this game doesn't seem to work with goldberg emu, despite the fact that it doesn't even have any DRM/SteamStub (running it through Steamless fails). A few months ago, someone from another community helped me get the game setup via something called "Smart Steam Emu" and now I have to launch the game via something called "SmartSteamEmu.exe" (Disclaimer: Idk anything about this stuff, so I'm talking out of my ass tbh).
Well I'm trying to transfer the game to my Steam Deck, but nothing seems to work! I tried getting the game precracked from several different websites. I tried getting the clean steam files and replacing the steam_api64.dll with Goldberg's. I've tried adding as a non-steam game and enabling proton, I've tried Bottles (using both the game.exe's as well as the SmartSteamEmu.exe).
Idk why this little indie game that doesn't even have DRM is giving me such a hard time, when a hundred other games like it have worked fine! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
- Trying very hard to get Jackbox Party Pack games to run on Steam Deck. Would really appreciate some help.
I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm trying to play a cracked version of JBPP (3 & 7), but the Deck just redirects me to purchase them, even though they're cracked (got them from steamrip) and they work fine on desktop.
I added them as non-steam games and set them to proton experimental, as I always do with my other cracked games that work fine, but these ones don't work for whatever reason. I followed a "foolproof guide to Lutris on Steam Deck" that was posted here a year ago, but that didn't get me any further. (I still have no idea what Lutris is. I guess it just can be used to run games instead of Steam?)
I added the game, created the prefixes folder and everything else the guide said to do. The only thing that happened was an item labeled "Jackbox Party Pack 7" appeared in the Lutris interface (nothing installed like the aforementioned guide was talking about and nothing showed up in the prefixes folder). But when I click "play" in Lutris, the button changes to "stop" for a min, then it goes back to "play" with the game never launching.
If anyone could PLEASE help me figure out how to get these JBPP games (from steamrip) working on Steam Deck, I would greatly appreciate it!
- Red dead redemption not working (dodi repack)
I downloaded rdr2 from dodi (and the updates) it installed properly and everything but it doesn't launch
Running with wine-ge 8-25 It instantly quits with error code (13568)
I read that installing vcrun2019 fixes it but that didnt help
Debian 12 (all up to date) Rtx 2060, 32GB 3200mhz ram, i5-11400f. 1tb ssd, Nvidia driver 525 on X11/i3wm
Ive tried different wine versions/prefixes, reinstalling, changing vkd3d version, updating system and none of that worked
Does anyone know what's wrong ?
- Do you think it is worth buying a Steam Deck to pirate?
I've been considering buying a Steam Deck but already having a decent PC I don't know if it's worth upgrading my PC or buying a Steam Deck.
I have a mid-range PC that runs any game nowadays, but I'm used to playing on console and I'm really more into programming and working on my PC, and what I like about the Steam Deck is that I just take it wherever I want to use it and I have everything ready to play, unlike a PC where for example, for emulated games I would need to look for a controller.
I guess I will buy the Steam Deck, but there are two things that concern me:
-
How can I add pirated games to my Steam library? Honestly I'd be lazy to have to go into desktop mode every time I want to run a game. Is there a way to add it directly to my Steam library? I understand that Heroic (Epic Games and GOG Launcher for Linux) has an option to add the games automatically to the Steam Deck library, adding my pirated games there would add them to Steam or is there a similar method to do that?
-
What is the emulation situation in the Steam Deck? I guess the Steam Deck is able to run almost any Switch game and some PS3 games, but I remember there was an emulator launcher specifically designed for the Steam Deck, does anyone know which one it is and if it is possible to open it directly from Steam?
-
- Has anyone else suddenly started having problems with Bottles?
I've been pirating on Linux with Bottles for years and I've never had any problems, I would consider myself an "experienced user" because I always solved my problems on my own but lately I can't run any pirated game on Wine with Bottles.
To start with, I first downloaded Terraria and the game wouldn't open, so I ran the game with the terminal and got this error:
wineserver: using server-side synchronization. wine: RLIMIT_NICE is <= 20, unable to use setpriority safely 002c:err:wineboot:process_run_key Error running cmd L "C:\windowsystem32\winemenubuilder.exe -r" (126). 0084:err:hid:udev_bus_init UDEV monitor creation failed Application could not be started, or no application associated with the specifi ed file. ShellExecuteEx failed: Internal error.
Investigating I simply realized that it is a generic error, so I started to install the dependencies of the game (from the Redist directory) and they do not open either, I get the same error, literally no executable opens through Bottles, and the funny thing is that I tried everything and nothing changes.I already tried to change the prefixes, disable GPU acceleration, remove the prefix and create another one (that is, the Bottle) and obviously Bottles has permission to write and read the directory where the games are, so I really don't know what could be causing the problem but it's pretty fucked up.
The curious thing here, is that I have a Bottle where I have EA Play and Battlefield V, and the game opens perfectly, but the Terraria executable does not. I wonder if it is simply some misconfiguration of my system, or the Bottles devs made some change that affects running executables, and I doubt it is the fault of the games being pirated because they are DRM-free games, such as Terraria.
Edit: Nope, reinstalling Bottles did nothing.
- Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 4 (latest) Information
As of this writing, Baldur's Gate 3 updated to 'Patch 4' with a lot of changes. Unfortunately, those changes mean there will not be a standalone 'Patch 4' to update your game. The developers made a lot of changes to the system files, thus not allowing the ability to create a update patch. You will have to download the whole game again with Patch 4 included.
As of this writing, Fitgirl/DODI have not updated to this version. The only torrent one I know of is a Steam version on 1337x by IGGGAMESCOM; full game w/ Patch 4 included.
Just to note: Patch 4 has broken a lot of mods, and has a few issues of its own. Also, from reports here, it breaks Vulkan on Linux. User beware.
- Far Cry: New Dawn - anyone got it to work?
that's the sequel to FC 5. tried a couple of times to get it to work with various wine versions, had no luck. apparently, it has some unbreakable protection. not sure if that's correct, I can run both Far Cry 5 and 6 without issues, why would they just protect the interim version?
- GreenLuma or Koalageddon
I have been trying to get either of these to work. I have seen a few people say that they got greenluma to work. One of them had said that they did it through WINE, but I have been having no luck.
- warcraft 3 reign of chaos?
hello fellow pirates, yesterday it ried for a very long time to get reign of chaos for streaming working.
Lutris scripts arent working. bottles script isnt working. playonlinux script isnt working. native wine isnt working (that one got the fathest, it showed the menu maybe once, killed itself and messed up my displays)
i tried my utter best but nothing seems to be working.
any help would be appreciated

- [GUIDE] "WINEDLLOVERRIDES="steam_api64=n,b; %command%" suddenly not working on your Steam games? Are you receiving the message "SteamAPI_Init() failed" in your logs? Here's the fix!
So recently, for reasons unknown to me, the old trick of
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="steam_api64=n,b" %command%
has not been working, at least with SteamOS 3.5 on the Steam Deck.
So here is the fix if you've been having the problem of "SteamAPI_Init() failed" in your logs, particularly when using something like the Goldberg emulator that relies on implementing a replacement for steam_api64.dll. This should work for other cracks like TENOKE's which use the same method.
1.Navigate to the folder of the Proton version that you want to use for the game (it defaults here on the Steam Deck):
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/(THE PROTON VERSION THAT YOU USE)/user_settings.sample.py
2.Rename that file to:
user_settings.py
3.Within that file, erase everything and add one single line:
user_settings = {"WINEDLLOVERRIDES": "steam_api64=n,b"}
4.Save the file and check to see if your games are working through Steam.
I don't know why this works over WINEDLLOVERRIDES in the launch options - it really shouldn't. But I've found that it does.
Let me know your experience.
- How the heck do I run Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition?
I've downloaded the game from cs, and I've tried my best to make it run. If I make a win32 prefix, the game doesn't run and the log says bad file descriptor. If I make a win64 prefix, the game silently crashes, nothing in the logs whatsoever. I've installed directx 9, dinput8, wmp9, I've run the game with dinput8 override as native first, nothing worked. If anyone has any idea how to make this game run, please help.
- Constant slowdown in Baldur's Gate 3
I downloaded the GOG version (from a secure site) and it runs fine, my PC can handle it and it runs perfectly on medium at a stable 60fps, but sometimes when I play the game it seems "slow", I can't really describe it but it's like the game runs fine at first and then drops below 20fps and when I restart the game it runs fine again.
I know it sounds like the cryptominer from 1337x, but I didn't download from there and the GPU and CPU usage is exactly the same.
The game is installed on an SSD.
I'm running Bottles with wine-ge-proton8-13, dxvk-2.2, vkd3d-proton-2.9 and the problem persists in both dx and vulkan.
- Anyone with much luck running Tmodloader on Steam Deck? [GOG Linux]
I got Tmodloader working fine on my desktop without issues using the GOG Linux Native version, but trying the same on my Steam Deck has proven tricky, I try adding it as a non steam game via the .sh commands [start-tmodloader.sh], but nothing happens when I launch it, in either desktop or game mode, not much luck adding Lutris as a Non Steam Game either. Is there any commands I need to check for that?
- Baldur's Gate 3 Black screen then crashes
I'm trying to run Baldurs.Gate.3.GOG.Rip-InsaneRamZes on Steam Deck.I tried both on Lutris with various runners (in this moment I set it on lutris-GE-Proton8-13..) and Steam as a non Steam game with various Proton versions as well (mainly 8 and Expermiental). In any case I got a black screen of the duration of 1 second followed by a crash.
With Lutris (lutris-GE-Proton8-13) I got this error log:
Started initial process 1312 from gamemoderun /home/deck/.var/app/net.lutris.Lutris/data/lutris/runners/wine/lutris-GE-Proton8-13-x86_64/bin/wine /run/media/deck/DeckSD/baldurs-gate-3/drive_c/Baldurs Gate 3/bin/bg3_dx11.exe --skip-launcher Start monitoring process. gamemodeauto: wineserver: using server-side synchronization. wine: RLIMIT_NICE is <= 20, unable to use setpriority safely [204:296:20230804,171610.340:ERROR crashpad_client_win.cc:521] CreateProcess: File not found. Any help?FYI: Baldurs.Gate.3.GOG.Rip-InsaneRamZes is the same as DoDi but I downloaded it earlier than their repack.
- Fix for Far Cry 3 Johncena141 release intro crash
The dx11 exe always crashes for me. I changed the executable to 'farcry3.exe' in the start file, and it seems to work now. If there is anyway to make dx11 version to work, lemme know guys. Specs: Arch Linux, Ryzen 5 5600, RTX3060, 16GB.
- Danganronpa has no sound at all
Yesterday I have downloaded Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc on Lutris (Windows version) and it ran perfectly, but today I get no sound at all (I've tried GE-Proton 8-8, 8-7, Staging 8.12, fshack 7.2, changed system default audio to Pulseaudio and to my headset but to no avail)

I've tried johncena141-s Linux version which didn't even start:

In this case I've searched upon my GLIBC version (2.37) and did and neither an

or export GLIBC_PRIVATE=GLIBC_2.37 work. - Does Cream/SmokeAPI work on the Steam Deck?
Been trying for a good while to tinker with one of these two, but hadn't had the most luck with it.
Game is Halo MCC, which granted information is spotty and I don't know if it even works on it on Windows, that one works weird with counting what DLC is installed.
- unRAID crack
A friend of mine and I are trying setting up an unRAID server. We used the crack on getintopc but it didn't work and we still have a 30 day trial. Is that normal or can we ignore that notification?
- Dead Island 2 EMPRESS
I've been trying to get DI2 running on my system, but it displays the error message "DX12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument.“ Adding -dx11 to the command line makes no difference.
OS is Tumbleweed. I've tried wine 8.12, various Proton GEs and also Proton Experimental. I have the latest dxvk and vkd3d packages installed. My GPU is a 1660Ti with the latest drivers and so I'm a little stuck on what is going wrong!
As I understand it, DI2 only supports dx12. Can anyone suggest a solution for this issue?
- Dissidia NT DLC unlocking on Steam Deck
Here's the situation. I own the game. (Not just the free version, I own the base paid game + Season Pass) but everything outside the Season pass is individual so I ain't paying for that (Especially since I have it all on the PS4 version anyways) The only DLC unlocker that works on Windows is copying the following set of files in the game's folder.
cdxclient64.dll
CoopLand.ini
CoopLand64.dll
dlllist.txt
steam_emu.ini
winmm.dll
This has been the method the game's very small community uses. I tried different DLC unlockers to no success (Even on Windows). This, however, doesn't work on the Steam Deck. Is there any command line I should add? overrides or something of the sort to make them work? Any help would be appreciated. This is the last thing I need up and running on my Deck for it to have everything I want on it.
- GYLT-FLT on Proton
Evening all, Have just installed this and added a link to Lutris to fire it up via GE-Proton8-6.
On my system at least, the game requires vcrun2022 to be installed and the launch option -dx11. Game engine is UE4.
The problem that I am currently having is no movies are playing. I've tried mf-install but this actually causes the game to crash with a "Fatal Error."
Can anyone suggest a workaround? System specs attached.
Cheers!
- Dodi and fitgirl repacks through lutris not working
None of the DODI or FitGirl repacks work for me in lutris. The installer window either doesn't appear at all or is black.
I am using the wine build lutris-GE-Proton8-10. Does anyone know how to fix this?
- StDk: Unable to move mouse within installer, can't change dir
Running a rzr1911 installer:
I can get the installer exe to run, I just can't move my mouse within it, even with a USB mouse. If I use a USB keyboard I cannot tab around, but I can hit spacebar and it will install to the default dir of C:\Games\Taiko. Then once that quick install finishes I can hit spacebar again to show the files. It launches it's own windows-based file browser showing the a folder that has the root dir of the linux machine, but separate from that is a C:\ drive(edited) I can double click the game's exe from within that file manager and as it's still part of the proton-launched setup.exe it continues to run the game.exe using the same instance of proton thus the game launches I just don't know where on my SD or internal storage it was installed to, as I don't know how Proton links the linux root folders to a windows C:\ drive I've had no issue with other installers ala fitgirl, but I can move my mouse and change the install dir within them I also tried the STEAM_COMPAT_MOUNTS=/run/media/mmcblk0p1 trick to see if it would default install to the SD card, but it does the same thing. I have a feeling it's installing to a temp dir and once I get out of the installer it wipes that fake dir but as I cannot change the dir within the installer as I have no mouse support, I can't change it to a working dir
- Linux Cracking Bible - The GNU Testament
Heyo, I posted this over in /c/piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com as well, but this feels like a better home for it.
I originally posted some notes about cracking games on Linux. Those notes started as a reply to someone, but they evolved into more of a small treasure map for a lot of the important parts of cracking games on Linux. As I finished up the post, I noticed that it was almost exactly at the maximum length it could be on Lemmy (10k characters). I kept wanting to come back and expand just a little bit on something in that post but anything over 10k characters would not save. I eventually got so annoyed that one thing led to another and now I actually have a proper bible, this time at 100k characters.
The GNU Testament of the Linux Cracking Bible is located on GitHub: https://github.com/YoteZip/LinuxCrackingBible

As you might now, the mod team of r/LinuxCrackSupport abandoned the subreddit due to the recent API changes.
We are going to rebuild our community here, which will take time. Feel free to ask any questions, whether it's regarding the topic of this community or the transition from Reddit to Lemmy.
- [Guide] Running Steamworks fix/Online fix with Linux Steam + Proton instead of lutris+steam.exe
[Read my comment]
This guide will show you how to run a steamworks fix in linux with Steam and Proton.
This guide assumes basic knowledge of Linux,Steam and SteamTinkerLaunch.
-
Install the game by any means ex: using Lutris or wine(standalone) to install it.
-
Install Steam Tinker Launch as a compatibility tool in steam. Guide to add the tool.
-
In the terminal run "steamtinkerlaunch addnonsteamgame" without quotes, this will open tinkerlaunch's GUI to add a game.
-
Fill the app name, the exe path and the start dir(start dir is important for some games that report missing assets without it, usually it's the same folder where the game's exe is located).
-
Restart Steam so the game shows up.
-
In Steam select the new game entry and go to it's properties.
-
Force a compatibility tool and select steamtinkerlaunch.
-
Start the game, when a popup appears(That's the tinkerlaunch GUI) select "Main Menu".
-
In the "Main Menu" press "GAME MENU"
-
Scroll down to the botton until you see "WINE DLL OVERRIDES".
-
In the Text Box place the dll's used by the fix in this manner ex: "OnlineFix64=n;SteamOverlay64=n;winmm=n,b;dnet=n;steam_api64=n" without quotes.
-
Press "Save and Play" and your game will boot up with the fix active.
BONUS RUNNING TRAINERS INSIDE A STEAMWORKS FIX:
-
Open the "Game Menu" inside steamtinkerlaunch GUI and in the misc options(right at the top) there should be a custom command section.
-
Select "Use Custom Command" and in the text box select the trainer.exe or cheat engine.exe.
-
Select the option "Inject Custom Command"
-
Press "Save and Play" and your trainer should pop up with the game.
EDIT: It's also be possible to skip steamtinkerlaunch and just use the options to launch the game as normal from Steam, but this aproach will not let you run trainers for your games! > WINEDLLOVERRIDES="OnlineFix64=n;SteamOverlay64=n;winmm=n,b;dnet=n;steam_api64=n" %command%
In STEAM launch options for the game but SteamTinker let's us well....tinker alot more like running trainers and stuff.
EDIT 2: IF THE GAME STILL TAKES YOU TO THE STORE OR REFUSES TO OPEN STEAMTINKERLAUNCH, PLEASE VERIFY THAT A FILE CALLED "steam_api.txt" IS NOT IN THE GAME'S FOLDER, IF IT IS REMOVE IT.

- Dark Souls III [FitGirl] cannot change language [SOLVED]
I'm trying to change language on DS3 but I get an error window which says "Origins.ini not found". I'm running DS3 via Lutris. What can I do?
SOLUTION: Run "Language Selector.exe" from terminal using wine in the same folder of the "Origins.ini" file, without prefixes or other things.
- free trial of software somehow storing usage data without altering prefix
this technically isn't a "crack" but it's within spitting distance of being one and it is still trying to circumvent DRM so this felt like the best place to ask. I'm using a downloader which has a free and paid tier, with the free tier limiting the amount of times you can use it per day. Since in linux you run everything in a prefix instead of natively, I figured it would be childsplay to figure out where it is storing the count and wipe it, thereby functionally giving me unlimited downloads.
This worked well enough, and I've pinned down a few places I know it's storing the count, but I'm at the point now where I'm bordering on thinking it's just dark magic.
Basically, I can get the count to reset if I delete config.ini from the software's working directory and paste in a reference prefix. But, if I then use the software, close it, and delete config.ini again, when I reopen the software it still knows that it's been used and recreates config.ini. This means that it is using something in the prefix itself to store usage information. (which is entirely expected of course, otherwise someone on windows could just re-extract the software and keep using it indefinitely with ease) However... if I then run a "diff -r -q" on the used-prefix (i.e. : the prefix where the software is storing that it has been used) and the reference prefix (i.e. : the prefix where the software doesn't think it's been used) these are the results
Files ./DOWNLOADER-PREFIX/drive_c/users/USERNAME/Temp/C41224A1DBA496C1FCF3946547B13945/540617BF672B559CF8DACEDD9AF401C5 and ./DOWNLOADER-REF-PREFIX/drive_c/users/USERNAME/Temp/C41224A1DBA496C1FCF3946547B13945/540617BF672B559CF8DACEDD9AF401C5 differ diff: ./DOWNLOADER-PREFIX/drive_c/windows/system32/_nvngx.dll: No such file or directory diff: ./DOWNLOADER-REF-PREFIX/drive_c/windows/system32/_nvngx.dll: No such file or directory diff: ./DOWNLOADER-PREFIX/drive_c/windows/system32/nvngx.dll: No such file or directory diff: ./DOWNLOADER-REF-PREFIX/drive_c/windows/system32/nvngx.dll: No such file or directory
With the "No such file or directory" errors being symlinks to linux equivilants of windows binaries. This indicates that the place where the software is storing it's usage information must be /USERNAME/Temp/C41... however I can delete that along with config.ini and it will still somehow know it's been used and set itself to the correct number of remaining uses.Again though, I can get it to reset back to the default value if I paste in the reference prefix and delete the config.ini file. So, somehow, it's storing data within the prefix that doesn't show up anywhere on a diff scan; it's storing data without storing data.
I genuinely have no idea what is going on here and frankly I didn't even think something like this was possible. I'm half inclined to blame it on some networking check or some such but, well, then how can I spoof it by pasting in the reference prefix? I can't think of any explanation for how it's spoofable by deleting the prefix and replacing it with a reference one, but if I then use the software and compare the new prefix with the reference one it was copied from, then reset the differences, the result is still somehow a tainted prefix. (despite, according to diff, them being the same)
- Missing audio in Black Ops 1 (DODI Repacks) [Solved]
As stated in the title, there are some missing audio assets when trying to play BO1. When I start the game, The interrogator guy's audio works, but when Alex Mason starts talking at the beginning, There is no dialog, but the rest of the ambient audio works. This is just 1 example. There is missing dialogue throughout the game. Not sure if its an issue with DODI's repack itself.
Edit: Can confirm that it's not only DODI's repack.
Edit 2: Fixed by installing wmp11
