  • Post summer songs in this thread for the summer edition of Lemmyvision!

    > TL;DR

    • In this thread, in the comments, post a song that was released in summer of any year.
    • Next week, you'll be able to vote for your favourite song from the songs posted here.

Remember that time I wanted to set up a smaller scale Lemmyvision for summer? Yeah me neither.

But here it is, it's still summer for a week, so..

    > Welcome to Lemmyvision's summer edition, Sunnyvision!🌞

If you don't know what Lemmyvision is, check out the sidebar!

The aim is to promote different languages and cultures from around the world, to share more between our online communities across Lemmy, and discover songs from lesser known artists.

The first edition concluded on April (https://jlai.lu/post/6041838) with 9 instances/countries/communities participating! The Northern Boys - Sexy Train (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VXKhJfRQ7k), the feddit.uk submission, won!

For this 'lighter' edition, the goal is to celebrate the last week of summer, with some summer related tunes. You do not need to bring your instance/community, everyone can share a song, no matter what instance they're on, as long as they can federate here!

    > Rules

    • Just post a song that was released in summer, from any year you want
    • At the end of the week I'll gather all the songs posted in this thread
    • You'll then be able to listen to a playlist with all those songs, and vote for your favourite!

Spread the word if you can, and I hope you have fun, and that everyone can discover new music! 🎶

    13
  • Spread the word, something is cooking!

More to be announced next week ! 👀

    2
  • Lemmyvision - The Results Are In!!

    The results are in! 🎶

    Hey everyone!

Thank you for participating, I gathered the votes submitted until this morning and put together this little graphics to announce the results, it looks like The Northern Boys were a clear favourite with their eccentric yet catchy song ; Azahriah and Bagarre, both ex-aequo, follow them closely in second position.

Congratulations to everyone for submitting great songs!

The ranking is based on the average position out of every vote, here are the details:

    1. The Northern Boys - Sexy Train (avg. rank : 3.4)
    2. Azahriah - Introvertált dal (4.2)
    3. Bagarre - On est les mêmes (4.2)
    4. Royel Otis - Heading for the Door (4.5)
    5. Tiki Taane - Tangaroa (4.6)
    6. Cassette Beasts - Your Inception (4.9)
    7. Pil - Dronning af månen - (5.0)
    8. Lu Kala - Hotter Now (5.2)
    9. Puggy - Lost Child (5.5)

The ranks are super close, I personally liked every single song and it was hard to have to rank them, because the last position didn't necessarily mean the song was bad.

But wait there's more! Here's a ranking based on how many time each song was ranked first :

    1. The Northern Boys - Sexy Train (21 times ranked first!)
    2. Tiki Taane - Tangaroa (13)
    3. Bagarre - On est les mêmes (10)
    4. Azahriah - Introvertált dal (8)
    5. Royel Otis - Heading for the Door (8)
    6. Lu Kala - Hotter Now (4)
    7. Pil - Dronning af månen (3)
    8. Cassette Beasts - Your Inception (2)
    9. Puggy - Lost Child (1)

That means every single song submitted was at least one person's favourite song, which is heartwarming, everyone got to discover new music!

There's even more! Here's a small list of every instance's most favourite songs (the songs that were most ranked highest for each instance), Belgium sadly didn't vote :

    • Australia (aussie.zone) : The Northern Boys & Tiki Taane
    • Canada (lemmy.ca) : The Northern Boys
    • Denmark (feddit.dk) : The Northern Boys
    • France (jlai.lu) : The Northern Boys, Royel Otis
    • Hungary (!hungary@lemmy.world) : Tiki Taane
    • New Zealand (lemmy.nz) : Pil
    • Programming.dev (programming.dev) : The Northern Boys
    • United Kingdom (feddit.uk) : Bagarre, Tiki Taane, Lu Kala
    • 3rd party voters : The Northern Boys, Bagarre, Royel Otis

Again, I want to reiterate how thankful I am that y'all participated. I didn't expect any response at all for such a niche event in such a niche social media, it was scary to be responsible that everything goes smoothly, but so rewarding to see people coming together and sending songs, and discovering new music from you!

    What's next for Lemmyvision?

I'm going to keep the community open if you want to use it to share lesser known songs from where you're from, that you'd like people to discover, feel free to use !lemmyvision@jlai.lu as you wish, as long as it's in the spirit of this contest.

Obviously another edition will happen, and hopefully with more people, as Lemmy grows, and gathers more users, and I manage to make contact with more instances, there is an opportunity to discover even more music! If you'd like to help, feel free to send a message too!

However, I do like the idea of having smaller scale, thematic, events, or just prompts in between, like how the speedrunning event AGDQ has the SQDG in summer ; I'll think about something, but feel free to share ideas as well.

Thank you, and see you next year for Lemmyvision 2 !! 🎶

  • The Lemmyvision voting will begin on Monday, April 8th and will last for a week!

TLDR: The voting form will be published on Monday, April 8th!

Thank you everyone for your submissions so far !

When I had the idea of Lemmyvision a Sunday afternoon, I never expected it to even take off, it was a silly idea that I thought was interesting enough to put effort in, I haven't contacted as many communities as I wanted, and was scared of letting people down, and mismanaging this small event, and yet you guys showed up and participated! I wanted to sincerely thank you for taking time out of your own lives to share a part of your musical culture. 💞

Denmark and Canada needed a bit more time to vote on their respective song to send, which will conveniently give me some time to make a proper form given that I was busy this weekend. I will probably use https://tally.so/ which seems to allow infinite responses (just in case) and conditional logic on their free plan. I'm currently debating with myself on whether the voting will take form of a 1 to 5 score per song, or a ranking, or just naming your favourite (and runner up?), I'll think about it, but feel free to share your thoughts / suggestions.

If your community hasn't submitted a song yet, and would like to participate, you still have time, just send the song your community chooses before the deadline!

Meanwhile, you have time to discover the submitted songs, as well as the songs that were suggested from each community. See you next week!

    Information

Casette Beasts is a game made in Godot by Bytten Studio and published by Raw Fury. Joel Baylis is the composer for the soundtrack while Shelby Harvey did the vocals. The studio is primarily based out of the UK with their publisher being based in Sweden.

Its a creature collector where monsters are recorded to tapes and then you can take on their form or combine two forms together to use in turn based combat.

Your Inception is a bonus track that appears when fighting a secret boss in the game added in as a reference to Bytten Studio's previous game, Lenna's Inception.

    Lyrics

Here you are Faced with a text of blood An honest chip on your shoulder Won’t make a soldier Out of anyone

Golden or draped in black It takes just a splinter in the right frame of mind To break all obstacles you might find

Can’t you Feel your true calling It’s endlessly falling Driving you here Despite your repentance And best intentions Nothing to fear You’ll figure it ou-ou-ou-out

Now let’s jump into the mix It feels tectonic Can you hear the shift

Are you craving acceptance Now your inception’s Finally here You’ll figure it ou-ou-ou-out

If you learn to loosen your mind You never know what you might find 'round here The box looks smaller from the outside

Holes that they made will cave in A dream of filling boots too big In time you’ll see How brave that you need to be

Silent sirens airing Tremors causing cracks in the crown They will never rest 'til All that’s left are roots in the ground

Don’t you look so doubtful All will be alright in the end If you play your cards right Keeping your hand close to your chest

Don’t you Feel yourself crawling No longer stalling Destiny’s here

Time to find a new groove Polish your best moves And turn up this song You’re leaving it all out to dry now

Stand out amongst it all The quicker you get up The harder they fall

Face the acceptance Now your inception’s Finally here You’re figuring it ou-ou-out

    Lyrics:

    Tell me

Tell me where did you go

Cause I can see the silence in your face

A lost cause no matter what you do

Until you always end up losing faith

Cause you′ve been looking for a sign of devotion

And every motherfucker in this world

You're juste like a lost child

And you′ve been looking, looking for a home

And it's been so hard to say

And it's been so hard to learn

And it′s been so hard to know

That I was just a lost child looking for a home

    Just like you

    Hard to say

And it′s been so hard to learn

And it's been so hard to know

That I was just a lost child looking for a home

    Just like you

    Okay promis, on s′écrit

    Tout ce qu'on ressent l′un pour l'autre

    On l′écrit

On le tâte sur nos lèvres

Dans nos chairs, sur le corps

    I'm always there with you

    With you

    Sans toi j'ai peur

    Tu restes dans mes pensées

Je ne préfère pas y penser

Cause I can see the silence in your face

No matter what we do it′s still the same

Cause I′m a lost child looking for a home

    Just like you

And it's been so hard to say

And it′s been so hard to learn

And it's been so hard to know

That I was just a lost child looking for a home

    Just like you

    Hard to say

And it′s been so hard to learn

And it's been so hard to know

That I was just a lost child looking for a home

    Just like you

Cause you′ve been looking for a sign of devotion

And every motherfucker in this world

You're juste like a lost child

And you've been looking, looking for a home

And it′s been so hard to say

And it′s been so hard to learn

And it's been so hard to know

That I was just a lost child looking for a home

    Just like you

    Hard to say

And it′s been so hard to learn

And it's been so hard to know

That I was just a lost child looking for a home

    Just like you

  • Bagarre - On est les mêmes is jlai.lu entry into lemmyvision

Bagarre - On est les mêmes [invidious link]

Bagarre - On est les mêmes [youtube link]

    the nomination process happened here\

english lyrics (run through deepl and corrected by me):

We have the same dads who all go elsewhere\ We have the same mums who are scared of wrinkles\ We have the same parents who are lied to all the time\ We have the same children (mine are different)

We've got the same fortune, the one we spent.\ We have the same suit, the same as the banker's\ We've got the same customs, because you've got to die\ We all end up in the ballot box (urn), even those who didn't vote

We all have the same smile, for 2-3 likes more\ We have the same look when we're not looking at each other\ We have the same memories, but we don't remember them anymore\ We've got the same future \

We believe we're all alone when there's 8 billion of us\ We believe that happiness costs 1 million dollars\ We'll all believe in God when it's too late\ We believe the end of the world (is just a hoax)\

We're all the same\ Glory be to ourselves\ Nobody loves each other

We all have FOMO, that's why we never sleep anymore.\ We watch the same porn, that's why we don't fuck anymore.\ We all like to be alone, except when the reception's off\ We all love gays, except when we don't love them anymore

We're different, but we have the same life\ We do everything as we did before, because we have no opinions\ We all pretended at the end that we'd come\ We all wanted to say "no", but we all said "yes".

We've got the same friends, we've got the same problems\ We've got the same enemies, because the enemy is ourselves\ We've got the same worries, we send it through DMs\ We have the same clothes, mine are from H&M

We've got the same family holidays that we reject\ We have the same childhood that we later regret\ We had the same weekends, the same amphet(amines)\ Drank the same beers, I promise tomorrow I'll stop

  • Tangaroa - Tiki Taane and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra is !newzealand@lemmy.nz's entry into Lemmyvision

As discussed mostly here, but also here, and here, we are nominating this specific Tangaroa version as our entry, as it was released in 2023. Note the song itself was released some time before this, we are assuming it's OK to nominate this version released in 2023 (we have backups if not!).

    It's also on Spotify.

  • Royel Otis - Heading for the Door is Australia@Aussie.Zone's nomination

On behalf of !australia@aussie.zone I am announcing "Royel Otis - Heading for the Door" as our official nomination. Documentation on the selection process can be found in this post: https://aussie.zone/post/8404273

  • One week until submissions are closed ! If your community has picked their song, create a post with a link to it here !

Hey friends, hope you are doing well,

A quick reminder that your community has one week left to submit a song, if you already have picked a song, don't hesitate to share it in this thread, and/or create a post in this community!

If you can, please also include a link to the post where you community discussed the song selection 😄

Just in case, here are the rules from the main thread :

    • Each Lemmy community is responsible for their own organization.
    • Only one (1) song is to be sent to represent your country.
    • If the song contains vocals then it must be in (one of) the official language(s) of your country, or a regional language in your country (Basque or Creole for example).
    • Songs must have been released within the last year (approximately after January 1st, 2023).
    • Songs must not be international hits (less than 1M views on youtube for example, will evaluate on a case by case basis).
    • Verification will probably require a link to the discussion thread created within your community, to ensure it’s a community (not a single person’s) decision.

TLDR Submission date limit : April 1st

    10
  • Welcome to Lemmyvision! 🎙️

    > TLDR

    • From right now and until April 1st, discuss with your country's community on Lemmy about which song to send and share to the fediverse.
    • On April 1st, voting will begin, where you will rank your favourite songs. Any song not submitted by this date will not be featured.
    • On April 8th, results of everyone's favourite songs will be published.
    • You can use !lemmyvision@jlai.lu for any question, this will be the community for updates and results, make sure to subscribe if you'd like to stay in the loop.

    > Welcome to Lemmyvision !

Lemmyvision is inspired from Eureddision (itself a reenactment of the Eurovision song contest) which was held on r/europe some years ago, and based on the participation of national communities / instances and the delicate musical taste of their members (you!).

Every country is welcome to participate! The contest follows the rule of "national languages only" but regional languages are welcome too, if your community would like to feature a song in a regional language of your country, that's awesome. The aim is to promote different languages and cultures from around the world, to share more between our online communities across Lemmy, and discover songs from lesser known artists. I hope to make it a regular event, so hopefully this works well for the first edition!

Exceptions can be made for specific instances to participate if they can submit songs closely related to their center of interest, for example, someone from programming.dev asked me if they could participate and send video game soundtrack, which seems fair to me. So for example if a movie-related instance would like to submit a song from a movie soundtrack, it would be welcome.

    > How it works :

This post, and the !lemmyvision@jlai.lu community will be open on Monday, March 4th, and I will start promoting the event on various instances and communities. From the moment this announcement is posted until Monday, April 1st, Lemmy communities from each country will try to gather its members and vote on a single song to send for everyone to vote. On April 1st, the songs will be locked in, a playlist created to allow you to listen to all of them, and communities will be invited to vote on their favourite out of every songs submitted, the voting period is estimated to last for about a week. On April 8th the results will be published, with a ranking of everyone's favourite songs!

I don't expect countries with a "small" population to be accurately represented on Lemmy, so no worries if you don't have a community and are just a small group of people, or if your country is not even on Lemmy but another platform (Kbin and whatnot), I can make exceptions, just reach out!

Regional languages are welcome as well, for example, France and Spain can submit a song in Basque, you're welcome to promote a regional language instead of a national one!

    > Song submission

    • Each Lemmy community is responsible for their own organization.
    • Only one (1) song is to be sent to represent your country.
    • If the song contains vocals then it must be in (one of) the official language(s) of your country, or a regional language in your country.
    • Songs must have been released within the last year (after January 1st, 2023).
    • Songs must not be international hits (I'll update on how this is evaluated).
    • Verification will probably require a link to the discussion thread created within your community, to ensure it's a community (not a single person's) decision.

    > Voting

    • I have one month to figure out a way to make voting fair and set up a way to prevent potential cheating (multiple votes per person and whatnot), I'll send updates in this community once I find a satisfying solution, but don't hesitate to make suggestions.
    • It will probably require to mention your Lemmy account and which community you associate with to make sure votes are genuine and can be verified
    • Results will probably take the shape of a percentage so that voices from "big" countries will not weight more than others.

    > On Federation

I don't discriminate based on instances, if your account is not on the same instance as your community, that's totally fine. Additionally, if you're on another Fediverse/Activitypub platform and would like to participate, and you're able to federate with your representing Lemmy community, you're welcome to join us, I'd just like to keep organization within Lemmy so it's easier to track participations.

    > Where to submit songs / votes

Probably right here in this community, I'm going to weight the pros and cons of submitting through a simple thread, or set up a form to use. Will update, but if your community is faster than my decision-making, it's okay if you submit your song by making a thread here!

    > Would you like to help?

Although I have the motivation to handle things, I'm probably underestimating the amount of effort needed to make this work. If you'd like to help with the organisation of this event, please feel free to reach out, I'd love to have as many people as possible involved!!
