My wife is coming around to the idea of getting a robot vacuum, and I really dont know the state of it in 2024. Im not opposed to cloud connected, as long as I can control it somehow with HA. Most of my automations will run when no one is around, so thats a bit one for me.
What is the best brand for accomplishing this? Anyone have some recommendations regarding this?

Hi everyone,
I created an integration for those of you that want to integrate your playstation network data into Home Assistant. You can review the image for a visual look at what this integration provides or continue reading to find out more.
What this integration provides: ===============================
- 1 media player to display your currently playing game's cover art and title
- 1 sensor that reports your current trophy level
- Additional data
- Total Platinum trophies earned
- Total Gold trophies earned
- Total Silver trophies earned
- Total Bronze trophies earned
- Percent complete of current level
- Additional data
- 1 sensor that reports your availability status
- Additional data about your active game
- Earned trophies by category
- Total trophies by category
- Play time
- Play count
- PSN User Rating
- ESRB Content Rating
- Game description
- Additional data about your active game
- 1 Notify service which accepts a list of friends and a message
- With this service you can message your friends from within home assistant
- Automation: When state changes to 'Overwatch' message
What this integration does not provide: =======================================
- The ability to control your console locally
- Check out the great ps5-mqtt add-on if you're looking for local power control
- Optionally, track down a PDP IR Receiver on ebay
Why would I use this integration? =================================
- You want an easily installable integration (rather than an add-on)
- You want to be able to easily integrate your game's art and title into your dashboard or remote
- You want to display your trophy information or game details on a home assistant dashboard
- You want to be able to automate messaging your psn friends
That's a pretty cool dashboard. How can I recreate it? ======================================================
- Sadly there is no easy button here. You can follow the directions outlined here but this is not plug and play. Also note that Mattias has moved on to another project. It appears he got tired of dealing with home assistant's lovelace dashboard and decided to roll his own. Looks pretty sick though.

The original was posted on /r/homeassistant by /u/voxmatt on 2024-06-27 15:08:30+00:00. *** Hi team, I think I know the answer to this, but is there anyway to use ESP32 hardware with ESPHome on it as nodes in ESPresense?
Both run on ESP32 hardware and ESPHome has some support for BLE Presense, so it \feels\ like there should be some way to hack the two together, but based on what I can find, it seems the answer is "no"?
More specifically, I have some cheap ESP32 boards with ESPresense on them, but then also recently bought some Apollo Automation MSR-2 for mmWave. As you might imagine, I'd strongly prefer to just have the MSR-2s in a room instead of also adding an ESPresense ESP32 in the same room.
(Tangent: the real-world applications of the ESPresense setup are kind of... lackluster. And the setup is pretty involved (procedurally, it's easy, but there's a lot of work in getting a node in \every\ room and then tweaking the signal to get it just right). So the juice really doesn't feel worth the squeeze, but the completionist in me is still determined... bah.)

- Why is entity/device referencing/naming so brittle and fragile?
This is an automated archive made by the Lemmit Bot.
The original was posted on /r/homeassistant by /u/RobertoDeBagel on 2024-06-28 00:39:33+00:00. *** I'm struggling to get my head around why referencing devices in HA seems to be so clunky, and if I'm doing something wrong. The UI leads the way to the using
human_readable_identifiers
forentity_id
.Simple hypothetical example:
-
Friendly name "Lounge Lamp"
-
Entity id "
light.lounge_lamp
"
Any automation/group/scene etc references the entity ID
Now I move the lamp to the bedroom and rename it 'Bedroom Lamp'. Now my choices seem to be:
-
Keep the entity as
lounge_lamp
, which is now confusing because its a lie. -
Update the entity\_id and break any automation that refer to it.
-
HA offers to rename entity\_id when renaming an entity, but does not attempt to fix any references this breaks
Otherwise said: HA does not enforce consistency in entity referencing.
I could have used some unique string for entity id, but if editing some text config which light is
tuya_downlight_24AF?
There's the concept of a UUID in the .yml config but this doesn't seem to be used more broadly. i.e. it doesn't seem to be possible to reference entities by some immutable, unique attribute that is assigned to every entity upon creation.
It seems the way entities are managed/referenced is incredibly fragile. Is that by design or a lack of it creating structural spaghetti, or something else?

I have a Wyze camera + the Wyze docker bridge and I read that Frigate might be able to detect barks and if somehow, I could get that setup with what I have? I'm not against buying other things.
My neighbor is aware his dog barks every 3-8 minutes for ~20 seconds ALL day, and he DGAF. When he leaves the house, he just lets the dog roam and annoy all the neighbors. I live in a dense city too, so our homes are feet apart. I've offered to let his dog come hang out with my dogs so he doesn't bark, but no dice.
It disturbs my work phone calls and I have 2 tenants who are in the same boat and complain to me about the dog.
If I can get evidence, the city code enforcement will send a letter and force him to take action.

The original was posted on /r/homeassistant by /u/c-o-n-t-e-n-t on 2024-06-26 12:27:10+00:00. *** I am relatively new to home assistant but I have gained some experience in the past few months.
All of my house is connected, including my Ring alarm. I was wondering, if I add the alarm control to my tablet - what is stopping any intruder entering my home simply walking to the tablet and disabling the alarm?
I looked into permissions on Home Assistant and it seems like there is actually no way to restrict access to a specific entity to specific users (I would have prevented any users from accessing the alarm, and only let them access the sensors).
I also thought of locking the tablet with a passcode - but this is a bit off putting to do that as the all point is easy access.
Lastly I thought of adding some sort of automation to lock the tablet when the alarm is on and unlocking it when off - but I am not sure how to approach this yet.
It goes without saying that a sophisticated attacker with access to the WiFi can easily go to the logbook on home assistant, find the alarm and disarm it.
I am wondering how folks approach this. Maybe I am just paranoid- but having the alarm on/off on the dashboard in the center of my home would completely bypass the alarm security

Which we agree. I am a developer and am used to Hass. We have many moving parts : networking(vlan , firewall rules), blue iris for cameras and Hass, etc. things frequently stop working for one reason or another, it is a complex system, but I just go and fix myself. It is fine and fun for me.
However I want to setup the new owners for success. They are CPAs, know very little about automation and never heard about HASS. What should I do? Is there any newbie friendly dashboards? How can I setup something that won’t break?
For starters I will simplify their WiFi, and remove all firewall and vlan setup , also am planing to get a simpler nvr that works for ip cam, and have a simple Hass setup. Any recommendations?
Thanks

I used to love Google home but have lately found it to be terrible, it's either slow or full of "Hmm I don't know what device you mean" even when it's the only device of that name registered in Google home.
I have home assistant set up with the majority of my IoT devices on a local system, and have been using it for physical control from my phone etc when Google is being a pain or on the rare occasion my Internet goes down.
Does anyone have any good guides for setting up a local LLM with home assistant for full home control, ideally I would like an LLM that can access the Internet for questions I have about events or stuff so it can search the Internet for what I'm asking if but not rely on it for simple stuff or stuff that is in home assistant already.
Also if anyone has any good recommendations for wireless local speaker/mic systems I can use with home assistant that have 0 cloud reliance that would be much appreciated too
Thank you.
