- Can you turn off overlapping lights?
So, apparently, when two lights overlap, they become brighter. Is there a way to turn this off and make it so they maintain the same level of light? Perhaps a module that does the trick? All i could find online was people suggesting the Perfect Vision mod, which unfortunately doesn't work on v11 anymore.
- "Formula can not be evaluated" error message
In both 11.300 and 11.311, when I open my Dragonbane campaign for which I have not installed the official content module but instead created all the items manually, I always get three messages "Formula can not be evaluated".
I believe that had something to do with items that I made, apparently improperly.
But I don't have the slightest clue which of the many items might be causing these error messages to appear. Any way to find out where the problem is caused that is producing these messages?
- State of the foundry card system?
Does anyone here use the foundry card system for any of their games? I just started looking into it and at first glance it seems convoluted compared to how seamless the rest of foundry is.
If you do use it I would be interested in hearing how, and the best ways you have found to implement it.
- Moving rollable tables between systems
Hello! I'm looking for a way to copy a set of rollable tables from one system to another. Specifically, I'd like to grab a bunch of the oracles from the "Ironsworn & Starforged" system over to a GURPS game I'm running; to help with generating content on the fly.
The rollable tables I'm looking at are pretty basic, but extensive - the ones I'm after are mostly roll a d100 for a textual result. I'm able to go through and individually import the table (from a compendium), export it to my file system, switch game systems, and import it there without issue; but I'm looking at a few dozen or more tables that I want to do this with! I'm hoping there's an easier way. They're all nicely bundled in a compendium; but I suspect that's part of the issue - is there a way to move a compendium from one system to another? Or another way to move rollable tables en masse?

- Version 12 Feature Preview | Foundry Virtual Tabletopfoundryvtt.com Version 12 Feature Preview | Foundry Virtual Tabletop
A summary of the planned priorities for Version 12 of Foundry VTT, including the results of the Patreon feature vote.
The Patreon votes are in, and the roadmap priorities have been set for the Foundry v12 series.
- In the Patreon vote, it was close overall. Event triggers by by a single vote over terrain and cover.
- Both event triggers and terrain and cover will get their foundations laid in v12.
- There will also be work on Canvas and Vision improvements, including improvements to global illumination, elevation, vision/senses, and token animation.
- There will be work on the form/html rendering to support per-world themes.
- There will also be under-the-hood work on a third iteration of the dice-rolling API, improvements to the Prosemirror text editing widget, improvements to the websockets API, and DB optimizations.
- This one is the official(?) Foundryvtt Lemmy, right?
Just checking if this one is now the official one. It’s quite… quiet. Are you going to post the news here too? Like on the Discord Server?
- FoundryVTT RPG - Crucible! Thoughts?foundryvtt.com Crucible | Foundry Virtual Tabletop
Crucible, a Game System for Foundry Virtual Tabletop
I'm real interested to hear what other people think of the Crucible RPG for and from FoundryVTT. Since I'm not a Patreon member, I missed out on the early bits, but from the screenshots I couldn't discern if it was a D&D 5e clone or something unique.
- 5e: Playing with Ancestral Weapons
I'm trying to figure out the best way to deal with some homebrew stuff I'll be dealing with in my 5e campaign.
If you're not familiar with Ancestral Weapons, it's a pretty cool system that gives you the ability to have weapons that level up with your players. The players get points periodically that they can spend on upgrades to their weapons.
I'll be using a variation of this setup in my campaign, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do so. My initial thought was a scene for each character's weapon, with some Monk's Active Tiles to handle a "talent tree" kind of interface where a player could select and then lock in which powers they want.
That doesn't really take care of updating the item itself though, which means that the players would have to update things manually ("oh, I need to make this sword +2 now" for example) after using the scene as a kind of calculator.
So maybe there's a better way: make the weapons Actors of their own, with special character sheets or something? Or maybe there's an existing mod I can use? Any thoughts or suggestions on the best way forward are appreciated.
- Version 11.5 - Intermezzo To Introduce Pre-update Compatibility Checks & Built-In Backupsfoundryvtt.com Version 12 Patreon Feature Vote | Foundry Virtual Tabletop
The official website and community for Foundry Virtual Tabletop.
Version 11.5 - Intermezzo
Before beginning work on Version 12, we plan a slight deviation from our normal development process. The process (both good and bad) of updating to Version 11 has given us more feedback highlighting ways that we can make this process smoother and safer for users. We are going to work on an iteration of the Foundry VTT software represents an intermediate update between Version 11 and Version 12, "V11.5", if you will. This update will invest into two features:
Pre-update Compatibility Check
We will expand and enhance the software update check with a utility that examines your currently installed game systems and modules and provides a list of their compatibility status with the updated software version that you are considering to install. This will allow users to understand - before downloading an update - what the compatibility of their systems and modules will be. This interface will differentiate between packages which are:
- Already compatible with the new version
- Not compatible, but with a compatible upgrade available
- Not compatible, without any compatible upgrade available
We believe this enhancement will improve transparency and awareness around the update process and help users to make the right decision about when they should update. We will not be back-porting this feature to V10 or any older generation, so we want to do this work as part of "V11.5" so it can be useful when the time comes for users to update from V11 to V12 (or later).
Built-In Backups
When updating Foundry Virtual Tabletop, our most frequent and most important piece of advice to users is to back up relevant user data to protect yourself and preserve the opportunity to downgrade back to the previous version of the software which you were using. We have observed that, without an easy tool for creating and managing backups, users may choose to skip this step. We never want to be in the position of telling someone "you can't go back to how things were before" - so we are going to build a tool that makes it easy to capture backups and restore data from a backup.
You will be able to backup your worlds, either individually or in bulk, and take a 'snapshot' of all your packages before you perform a major version updated. These backups will be stored in a separate data location. We will provide an interface that allows you to see your available backups and restore them, or rollback your entire installation to how it was before you updated Foundry Virtual Tabletop.
These two features are intended to make the process of updating Foundry Virtual Tabletop more transparent and more safe to ensure that everyone can enjoy the awesome new features we will deliver in V12 (and beyond) without unintentionally passing a point-of-no-return. Our team hopes that you are excited by the potential for "V11.5" as a bonus expansion of Foundry Virtual Tabletop before we begin work on Version 12.
- PSA: Automated Backup and Sync Services
Every so often we see a surge in users caught unaware by a particular difficulty related to the use of automated backup and sync services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud and more.
We would like to take this time to reiterate to @everyone that we do not support the use of these kinds of services for storing your user data, and that doing so can and will result in corrupted database files.
Why shouldn't I use a sync service?
Storing your data via automated backup or sync services can result in database corruption in cases where the files are being read or written when the sync service operates, and may periodically replace
lock
files that Foundry VTT uses to prevent additional instances of Foundry VTT from accessing the same data at the same time.We hope this helps clarify some issues for users about backup services, and prevents some user data loss in the future!
For more information and a deeper explanation including how to use these services responsibly and protect your Foundry VTT data; please see our article:

- Foundry First Steps and Useful Info (Read Before Posting)
To help new FoundryVTT users better orient themselves, this post is a short guide to:
- The FoundryVTT ecosystem;
- Where to look for help and information;
- How to help others help you!
---
- The Foundry ecosystem is split into several communities:
- The official FoundryVTT Discord server - operated by Foundry staff and hand-picked moderators, this server is the official gathering spot for Foundry users.
- /c/FoundryVTT - you are here! This instance is run by Foundry users for Foundry users.
- Foundry Hub - A fansite with easily searchable module database, articles on Foundry and more!
- /r/FoundryVTT - The FoundryVTT community on Reddit.
- A number of smaller subcommunities, mostly on Discord.
---
- The main sources of information for new users are:
- Foundry official Knowledge Base - documentation that goes into a lot of detail about all Foundry core features.
- Foundry community Wiki - still growing in submissions, but by chance - it might have just what you are looking for.
- Either of these troubleshooting guides: Interactive and Google Doc.
- Subreddit wiki of /r/FoundryVTT that can be found here. (note we will be working to copy this over once we find a good solution to present this info in Lemmy)
- Searching /c/FoundryVTT, /r/FoundryVTT and Discord (when searching on Discord, chose as few of the important keywords as possible for best results).
---
- Help others help you! Especially when you have a technical issue, provide information that is necessary to solve it.
- Please include the game system you are using in the title of the post - [D&D5e] or [PF2e], for example.
- Ideally, if you can log into a Foundry world, press the
Support
button located in the Game Setting tab, and copy-paste the section under “Support Details”. - If you can’t get into a world, at least mention: Foundry version, Game System and it’s version, hosting setup (Foundry client, NodeJS, cloud service, etc.), what browser are you using, operating system.
- The most common cause for issues in Foundry are modules. Always try to reproduce your issue with all modules turned off to find out if that is the case. You can use Find the Culprit module to assist identifying the problem module.
- Remember to check the browser developer console for red error messages. You can usually access the console by pressing F12; otherwise read here.

- White Wolf / Onyx Path games in Foundry
I'm currently working on a campaign for the Onyx Path system Exalted, and I wanted to build out a Foundry companion for running the game online.
That said, the Exalted 3e instance isn't actively supported by the publisher, Onyx Path, and only lightly supported by the community at large.
I'm curious to know if anyone else is working in a system with minimal 3rd party support and what their approaches have been to implementation.
Should I just go with a more generic but better supported mechanics engine and try to jury-rig the game from there? Should I stick with what's out there? Or is doing Foundry for this kind of project s fool's errand?
- Welcome r/FoundryVTT Refugees!
We wanted to establish a Lemmy instance as an alternative to the subreddit. (Thanks FΛПG for getting this setup!)
However we really don't want to fracture the community any more than is necessary. We will likely be trying to consolidate other Lemmy/KBIN instances where possible to make things more streamlined for users trying to convert over.
If you notice any other instances, please encourage (not harass) them to reach out to us. Or, if they'd like, they can lock their instance and redirect traffic here.
Welcome aboard!
- What did you prioritize on the V12 Patreon poll, and why?
My top two ended up being measured templates and placeable items. The former because of how valuable I think it is to have spell auras automatically appear (without having to make a macro using Token Auras). The latter was because I often want to put items on the map for players, but have to make a journal container for them, which is decently annoying.
I also threw terrain and cover in there, because it's a little annoying to determine, and I'm starting to play more PF2e, and that's a really cool aspect of that system.
Curious to hear about others' use cases and priorities, or what workarounds they use for the issues I mentioned above.
