Hide read posts released; final icon voting tomorrow
  • Strange! To give you more info, I've tried this on both Chrome and Firefox on Android.

Here's a screenshot of my "hidden posts" section: https://ibb.co/93F95h9

This post is also not visible in the voyager community: https://ibb.co/XyrWdM3 (sorted by new)

Thanks a bunch for all your work!

Edit: I just scrolled through my Home feed and since I have activated "Mark read on scrolling", after tapping "hide post", it hid those 4-5 posts and they all show up in my profile "hidden posts" section. But this post still doesn't show either in voyager community or in "hidden posts"

  • Love it, as my feed can get fresh items when I check Lemmy frequently.

However, I have noticed that once a post is hidden there's no way to get it to be displayed back on the app. The "hide read" functionality hid this post once it was read but to give this feedback I had to go to your profile @aeharding@lemmy.world and find the post again. Am I missing something?

  • YSK: The Fediverse is a privacy nightmare
  • Yep, I just wish atleast the major instances outline this clearly to the users. Fediverse definitely has its merits that outweigh these pitfalls. Everyone should still be aware of this in as transparent way as possible

  • YSK: The Fediverse is a privacy nightmare
  • It is reasonable because I can have a trust basis with my followers who are my friends/family. If a malicious instance host can just use a plugin to view follower only post, that's not going to be expected by an average user. That's why I posted in YSK.

  • YSK: The Fediverse is a privacy nightmare

TLDR: While Fediverse won't directly serve you ads, anonymous bad actors other than Meta can save, redistribute, and even dox you for any information you post here. Anything you post here can/will remain forever on some malicious instance that doesn't honor deletion requests. So be careful!

In the current ongoing debate of federation with Meta Threads

Everyone is talking about how Meta is trying to Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish the Fediverse. Meta won't be alone for long in this goal, there will be a lot of capitalist actors that would try to do the same in the long run.

Defederation with them will be a shot in the leg, and handicap the Fediverse movement itself. There will be users/instances in the current Fediverse that would want to federate with them, and banning such instances would create silos and echo chambers.

The way out of this is to focus on the 2nd E - "Extend". I think we can all agree that UX of Threads app will always probably be the best out of all the federated instances. But that is something that people can still live without. Before long, Meta will tout shortcomings like lack of E2E encryption in the private messages and some other core features, that will create a bigger divide amongst ourselves. The Fediverse developers and community have to keep abreast of Meta on such core features, so that they can never extend the core of the Fediverse.

Let me know of your thoughts!

Netflix's new billboards proclaiming that 'He's Still Geralt' are just embarassing.

TLDR: As Henry Cavill is leaving after season 3, these are the billboards Netflix has placed around the UK declaring, pathetically, that “Yes, he’s still Geralt in Season 3”. This is not a joke. This is real. The Witcher Twitter account is tweeting it.
