The problem with GIMP
  • My very large organisation has Gimp available for basic image manipulation. I've tried to get them to use Paint.NET instead, but nooooo... Apparently we like hitting nails with jackhammers around here

  • Mariokart 8 Sucks.
  • Are you talking about MK8 on the WiiU, or MK8 Deluxe on the Switch?

For what it's worth, I've only played the WiiU one, and I really enjoy it. It's go as far as to say it's the only Mario Kart I've really enjoyed. I don't have a Switch, so I can't talk to that version.

  • What are your thoughts on E-motorbikes using bike lanes?
  • As a slight tangent, I recently got an electric moped. It has a maximum speed of 48kph, and the speed limit on my route to work and back every day is 50kph.

I bet that if we made a Venn diagram of all the people that say "I'd respect cyclists of they were forced to be registered with number plates and insurance" and the people that insist on overtaking me in single-lane suburban streets because I'm going 2kph below the limit, it would just be a perfect circle.

  • What is a gender neutral replacement for man, guys, buddy, etc?
  • I really, really wish we could degender "guy" and "guys". I know plenty of people of all genders that use the words in general to describe people, objects, concepts, everything. The only holdouts are people that insist on it specifically meaning males. Ironically, these people are often the hardcore feminists.

If other English words can change their meanings and be claimed/reclaimed by certain groups, why can't others?

Take guy! Use it to describe whatever you want! Free it of its historically phallic shackles!

  • Erulelation
  • There are three issues here:

    1. The leaked ROM of Tears of the Kingdom and a .nfo that specifically told people to use Yuzu
    2. The developers recently released an Android version that works really, really well. There are many Android based gaming handhelds on the market now, and several are powerful enough to run Switch games using Native Code Execution (think virtual machine for ARM). Switch emulation was being used as a benchmark in techie videos of these products! TotK still isn't great on the most powerful ones, but give it another year or two, and you'll get the full Switch experience without a Switch.
    3. The developers fucking sold the emulator. Sure, it was only for early access, but a sale is a sale. Then there the whole patreon thing.

Those three things combined put Yuzu right in Nintendo's sights

  • Nintendo doing the smarting
  • Not necessarily. The LLC will pay out as much as it can and then filler for bankruptcy. The individuals will likely get off scott free since they've not actually been convicted of any wrongdoing.

I imagine that developing Yuzu and Citra would be a huge item on their CVs, too. Honestly, if Nintendo were smart, they would have tried to buy the project somehow and hire the developers to work on backwards compatibility for whatever the console that comes after the Switch 2 is..

  • Nintendo is suing the creators of Switch emulator Yuzu
  • It runs on Android now, which might be what's gotten Nintendo extra annoyed here, since there are some relatively affordable Android handhelds that can run Switch games at close to full speed with some tweaking.

Having said that, I have an Odin 2 handheld, and it would have been cheaper and easier to just buy a Switch and the games I want to play.

  • NSFW
What (naughty) fun have you been up to this week? (from 12th February to 18th February)
  • My sex life is non-existant at the moment, but I figured I'd share this experience/discovery anyway:

About a month ago, my gallbladder exploded. Yadda yadda yadda, it turns out that Tramadol (an opioid painkiller) is also an SSRI antidepressant. With all the very unsexy side effects of any other SSRI (anorgasmia being the most annoying).

    So there ya go.

  • Netflix: Piracy is Difficult to Compete Against and Growing Rapidly
  • It's not just the enshittification of their own service; it's the fact that so many audios decided to pull their content and set up their own enshittified services.

Now, if I want to watch stuff legally, I have to have a bunch of subscriptions, and we're back to where we started from.

  • Thoughts on BOOX Tab Ultra C?
  • I have a Boox Nova Air. It's a 7" B&W e-reader. It's nice to have a boring Android tablet that also happens to be an e-reader.

I wouldn't recommend ePaper for anything but the very lightest of web browsing. The like refresh rate really is a lot to take in.

Using the pen is nice. It feels a lot like black magic, really. It's just like drawing on paper.

If like to get a colour version to read comics, but let's face it, I can't even remember where my current one is, let alone the last time I turned it on..

  • YouTube
  • I started paying for YT Premium a few years ago when there was an election on, and one of the absolute worst minor parties that's run by a billionaire just threw money at YouTube advertising.

I haven't looked back. I watch YT content on my ShieldTV poetry much exclusively, so adblock doesn't work anyway :/
