If there is a financial interest then the app is worthless by design. iOS is not a trustable platform for anything security related so obviously you shouldnt use it for anything that concerns your physical safety. Dont forget, apple will always bend the knee to governments in the end.

Which worries me, because if its closed source then thats a worthless promise and actually makes the app a perfect candidate for a honeypot or backdoor.

While i agree with the point you are making, its just quite the obvious difference. Medical masks have much much denser material so they dont let water droplets through. These masks are usually just some clothing fabric that is full of big openings and really easy to breathe through.

Usually the idea would be to keep pushing harder and harder in a non violent way until they just start killing protesters. Then you have martyrdom and that will mobilize the masses. Sadly i dont think that will actually work in the US, because people have already died and nothing has meaningfully changed. There will probably be some targeted terrorist attacks by people that are sufficiently pissed of at trump, but nothing big enough to actually be a threat to the trump administration.

If this doesnt motivate the average US citizen to go out on the street, then idk what will.

Im no expert here, but these drones have to fly many kilometers and they carry the spool on board, so the added weight is probably an issue. I assume the production would be much more complicated too. For normal industrial underground fibers the shielding can be quite thick and stiff, but for this you would need some kinda coating that can be incredibly thin while also somehow blocking all light.
