  • So much god-damned attention on a fucking mayoral race. Sure, it's NYC, but he's still just the mayor. Like they could have just ignored him and sapped the energy from his win, and then primaried him when his term was up.

It's just further evidence that the Democratic leadership is entirely inept.

  • Very interesting history lesson there. The Communist Party of Greece had been banned in 1936, but these revolutionaries played a significant role in the Greek resistance to Nazi occupation. The guerillas stymied the invasion forces, and it's a source of civic pride among Greeks that even though Athens fell to invasion, Greece contributed to the Allied victory by making it a pyrrhic victory.

However, immediately after the war, the same guerillas were prosecuted as criminals, leading (among other things) to a Greek civil war which ended in victory for the monarchy. The same heroes were demonized by the government they helped restore to power.

Of course, there's way more to the story, and there are far more shades of gray than I've described here. But photos like this should serve as a reminder that history is truly written by the survivors, and then edited by the victors.

  • I never understood people who hate on the RAW. Like, it's an open concept. Make it your own. Any changes can be done at the first session, and if you have an adjustment that's better, everyone will agree and it will catch on.

  • 1 hotdog a day would suggest a diet that is unbalanced and prioritizing cost and convenience. I would bet money that the comorbidities include sedentary lifestyle, poverty, limited access to fresh produce, poverty, limited education, and poverty.

  • We disagree on many things even within denominations, but we are all trying to follow the same God.

... might actually lead to the change we wish to see.

I think the problem is that the difference in interpretations of what it means to follow the same God leads to diametrically opposed concepts of what change you wish to see. Some Christians want to kill, imprison, or subjugate people who aren't white Christian men. How can you meet that with anything less than animosity?

  • This is a good idea even if you don't think they will do it. When they don't do it, you can negotiate money back from the purchase to cover the cost of hiring a junk removal team. Then you can pocket the cash and do it yourself or you can pay someone else to do it.

  • Have you considered that the people "appeasing" Trump are actually on his side pretending not to be? Not that "both sides same" bullshit, but that conservatives have been really good at pretending to not be.

  • Ok, I like coffee, and I like cotton candy, and this is cute, so I almost hate to criticize it.

But isn't the cup just going to get all sticky? The bigger the cup, the quicker it will cool, and the more coffee you'll need to fill it. You'll only get a few "raindrops" of sugar before the steam stops coming off the cup. That's barely any sugar, especially for a large cup. What do you do with the rest of the cloud? Are you supposed to smoosh the rest into your cup? Because that seems like too much sugar. Or do you share the cloud with people at your table?

I think this concept would be better actualized as part of a dessert. Maybe like a hot peach cobbler or a sticky toffee pudding. Something that stays steaming for a minute, and you want to wait for it to cool, and it won't need sugar but the little drops of sweetness won't make it too sweet.
