[Community Challenge 51] Plagues and Curses
  • Thanks for putting that behind a spoiler. It’s very well done, but definitely a bit disturbing.

  • Hey Lemmy, what's on your mind?
  • My partner stresses too much with work and I wish I could help more. But all I can do is give comfort and urge to at least let things go when at home.
Any practical advice is always brushed off, which I can understand. Sometimes you just need to vent and I don’t mind listening about what happened this time. I just hate seeing them like this, it does make me worry a bit about their health.

  • [Community Challenge 51] Plagues and Curses

Prompt: 2d illustration, low angle, A girl holding up an umbrella, wearing rain boots, looking at the camera with wide surprised eyes, around her hundreds of frogs are falling from the sky, it’s raining frogs in a storm --ar 4:3 --v 6.1

    Theme

Oh no, the gods are real and they are pissed! Every single god that has ever existed has suddenly decided to take action and is busy with smiting and casting plagues for whatever petty reason they can think of. This week's challenge is for you to create your own vision of whatever mean, silly or ironic punishment a god might inflict on the world below. Choose a god (or make up one of your own) and decide on a fitting form of divine punishment for whatever reason you can think of. From the classical swarms of locusts, to the weirdly specific finding-mice-in-your-mustache-if-your-name-is-Alan kind of curses. Gods are petty and pretty much take offense to anything :)

    Format

This challenge will follow a slightly different format. Everyone can submit their image to this post. At the end of the week all images will be collected and shared in a new voting post wherein people can vote on their favorite image. This will be up for at least 24 hours before a winner is made. There are no extra points to be earned, OP will decide on a winner in case of a tie.

I hope this format will give everyone the opportunity to take their time and have an equal chance at earning votes. It can be a one-off if this turns out to be too time consuming or impractical.

    Rules

    • Follow the community’s rules above all else
    • One comment and image per user
    • Embed image directly in the post (no external link)
    • Workflow/Prompt sharing encouraged but not required (we’re all here for fun and learning)
    • OP will declare winner in case of a tie
    • The challenge runs for at least 7 days from now on
    • Down votes will not be counted
    • Voting and final scoring will be done in a separate post.

    Scores

At the end of the challenge the image with the most votes, wins! It's that simple this time :)

The winner gets to pick the next theme. As always, have fun everyone! Previous entries

  • [ Discussion ] On scoring the weekly challenges
  • I'm such an idiot, I thought the PSA was posted in the challenge itself. Don't know why I thought that :)

I really wish Lemmy would offer a better way to link to individual posts across different instances.

  • [ Discussion ] On scoring the weekly challenges
  • You make a good point, and I'm fine with dropping that one.
It was originally included to encourage sharing of workflows and prompts. Some of us are new at this, or appreciate a peek in the kitchen (sorry, bad Dutch expression :) to get some inspiration.
But I agree that it doesn't mean that people should be penalized for having complex workflows.

  • [ Discussion ] On scoring the weekly challenges
  • That’s true, and I guess this is partly about wanting everyone’s work to be seen.
Most people browse at last 6 or 12 hours, and will miss the submissions. After about 24 hours it dies out and only community members still visit.

I figured it would be nice to also use the challenge as a way to showcase everyone’s work. Because all of you deserve it.

  • [ Discussion ] On scoring the weekly challenges
  • I already perform the weekly tallies with a script, it takes about 5 minutes of my time to create and review the results.

Though I will admit this is a bit more involved. Creating the voting thread would definitely have to be automated, together with tallying the scores afterwards. It’s doable, but will take me some time.

I guess this suggestion mostly stems from wanting a level playing field. There’s often a lot of great late-entry results that don’t get the traction they deserve. The extra points for last two has some limitations, and the penalty for early entries has its own downside.
I know we all play for the fun of it, but I wish it could all be about what you post and not about how fast.
So to me the most logical solution seemed to be to let voting begin for everyone at the same time.

Then again, I know no solution is perfect. I’d like the challenge to remain fun and accessible to everyone, that’s my main concern.

I couldn’t find your PSA though?

  • Merde never includes his prompts, though I've always been curious about how his process works :)

Including prompts is encouraged but not required. And in some cases it just takes too much effort to describe what might be a multi-step process.

  • [ Discussion ] On scoring the weekly challenges

I wanted to ask what you think of a possible change to the scoring of the weekly challenges. Right now most of the scoring is based on who gets the most upvotes. It works well for keeping things impartial, but those who post early will get more views and more chances at being upvoted than those who post later. We already try to make things fairer by awarding bonus points to the last two images and a penalty for posting within the first 24 hours. That last one got some feedback with some valid points, so I would like to suggest something different.

I want to see if having a separate submission and scoring post might work for the next challenge. Everyone can submit their images for at least 7 days and then I put them all together in a new post with separate replies to let people vote for at least 24 hours. Maybe even wait with posting until the weekend to get the most out of it? I'd be happy to hear your input on this. It's a bit more work, but I don't mind doing it if it makes things more fair. And I hope I can automate the tedious stuff.

Nothing much changes on your end, but it might make the whole experience more fun and less of a race :)

    edit

Thank you so much for your input and appreciation. I've heard some great arguments and will keep these in mind. I'm going to give this a try for the coming challenge. But to whoever wins next, feel free to ignore all of this and try something different for the challenge after this. Just know I'm always happy to help out in whatever way possible.

  • What is your favorite video game development software?
  • PICO-8, though it's more of an on-and-off again project of trying to teach myself to program again.
But I like the limitations you have to work with, and even I can create some crude 8x8 sprites :)

  • What uplifts you the most?
  • Being appreciated.. either by my kids, my partner, co-workers or anyone else really..

If I feel like I've made someone happy or helped them out somehow and they give a heartfelt "thanks" or even just a big smile, well that always makes my day.

    [Community Challenge 48] AI Jank

Prompt: A woman showing off her multiple fingers --ar 4:3 --v 6.1

    Theme

It's time to forget all you've learned on how to make believable images and go back to the jankiness of older AI images. We have all seen it, the weirdness AI can create when you least want to. But for this week's theme, try to create an image with the AI mistake (extra fingers, weird posture, you name it) as it's main attraction.

Embrace the jank and turn it into something beautiful! :)

A bonus point can be earned by anyone who can make their image without explicitly describing the weirdness they want to see in the prompt. Just like when you don't want to see these kinds of fails. For example: If you try to create a man with multiple legs, then a man with three legs wouldn't count, but a man running really fast with his legs would. Consider it an extra challenge to see how well you know your model and if you can push it exactly to the desired breaking point :)

As before, take your time! Some of you can be super fast (me included) and I've noticed that the early bird usually catches the worm. So for this challenge I'm subtracting a point for anyone who posts within 24 hours.

    Rules

    • Follow the community’s rules above all else
    • One comment and image per user
    • Embed image directly in the post (no external link)
    • Workflow/Prompt sharing encouraged (we’re all here for fun and learning)
    • Posts that are tied will both get the points
    • The challenge runs for 7 days from now on
    • Down votes will not be counted

    Scores

    At the end of the challenge each post will be scored: | Prize | Points | |---|---| | Most upvoted | +3 points | | Second most upvoted | +2 point | | Third most upvoted | +1 point | | Most original | +1 point | | AI jank present | +1 point | | No explicit AI jank instructions in prompt | +1 point | | Last two entries (to compensate for less time to vote) | +1 point | | Prompt and workflow included | +1 point | | Post within 24 hours | -1 point |

It's a bit of a different challenge, but I hope you'll enjoy it!

    [Community Challenge 46] B-Movie Posters
    Prompt:

A 80's style Hollywood movie poster, of a cowboy ninja on a pirate ship, the title "Lone Star Ninja" is written in bold letters --ar 2:3 --v 6.1

    Theme

It's movie time! For this challenge I dare you to create the cheesiest B-movie poster you can think of. Some photo shopping is allowed if you have trouble with the title. I think by now most models should be able to generate text, but I get how frustrating it can be when it doesn't cooperate.

As an extra rule, take your time! Some of you can be super fast (me included) and I've noticed that the early bird usually catches the worm. So for this challenge I'm subtracting a point for anyone who posts within 24 hours. It should hopefully level the playing field a little bit. Consider it an experiment, whoever wins is free to get rid of this rule if it doesn't work out.

    Rules
