  • It's funny because when you described your problem I also knew immediately what the issue was since I remember turning that setting on for my gaming PC back when steam play was new (been gaming on Linux exclusively since 2016).

But for the life of me I can not remember turning on that setting on my steam deck. I must have since it works with all games but I really can't remember switching it on.

  • Pigs are pigs no matter where you are.

In Germany they regularly kill POC in "self defense" like when they shot a 16 year old kid, that was holding a knife, with an AR.

Some cops are also fascists or support other fascist actors. Like when an attorney for the victims of the fascist terror group "NSU" got threat via fax signed "NSU 2.0" her Fax number was pulled from the data in Frankfurts 1sr precinct where a bunch of Cops were working that were also in a WhatsApp group sharing Nazi memes.

And the people investigating all of this? The police of course. Like when two police precincts were investigating each other both for killing a person "in self defense".

    Tl;dr: ACAB world wide

  • Gotta agree with Ozymandias aliases are the way to go.

I've set up a few different aliases "search" which is just pacman -Ss "install" (pacman -Sy) "update" (pacman -Syyu) "remove" (pacman -Rns) and finally as to your question about unneeded dependencies I've got "clean" which first does an orphan check/clean (pacman -Qtdq | pacman -Rns -) and afterwards also cleans the package cache (pacman -Sc) Also the aliases are automatically prefixed with sudo (if it is installed).

This way I simply run update and afterwards clean and my system is up to date and cleaned of orphans.

I've created these aliases back when I was still using 3Distros (Arch,Debian/*buntu, Fedora) so my alias definition comes after a little script that determines the correct package manager and, depending on that, sets the aliases. But that's of course only necessary if you use different distros and want your aliases to be portable.

Tl;dr: Set up aliases for things you wanna do often. Check the wiki for reference if you only want to do something every so often.

  • What? How broken are we all that you first thought is "Nice then I can work two jobs" The only way this really works if they pay living wages for 3 day work weeks. And I know they aren't even paying those now for 5-6 days but this is a point we have to insist on and make them do it. Workers have managed to enforce a 8 hour work day a long time ago. We need to remember our strength and fight for better conditions.

  • I remember the first time I saw ads on YouTube, I had just set up a new computer and wanted to test everything. So I opened Firefox and loaded a YouTube video. I got a preroll and wondered "wait ad's, on YouTube?" Then I realized I had been using AdBlock for so long I never witnessed the transition from ad free YouTube to YouTube with ads.

These days I use unlock origin, Sponsorblock and revanced. For now it still works but maybe I'll leave YouTube soon :/

  • Yeah they're using the hell out of dark patterns and then switch them up mid process i.e. clicking the big green "Ok" Button will first be the one that gets you to pay more later you need to hit "Ok" to proceed without additional fees.

I recently went through the process with a friend. Both of us reasonably tech savvy and under 35 and we almost went mad. So it's not just old folks.

  • No do is not the "none superuser" version of sudo.

As the comment above stated it's part of loops. But since loop syntax are built in to bash they are actually seperate built-in commands. Because it's an available builtin autocompletion offers it to you.

The do command here is just a special command that expects a certain set of parameters and a done at the end this is why you get an error trying to run do alone because it's not adhering to the syntax properly.

  • I've been using signal since forever. Recently when there was a big exodus from Whatsapp because of their changed data policies was the first time I felt an impact with response time in the app etc. I immediately set up a regular donation. A few months later they came out with there cryptocurrency scheme I decided I won't be funding any cryptocurrency so I cancelled my donations. I trust signal on the technical side implicitly. But they have lost my trust in the business side :/

  • As stated above. I know that there are actual logs produced (I honestly would not have known where to look for them by heart but that's my shortcoming) my comment was meant to be sarcastic sorry for dropping that /s

  • Sorry I thought I was exaggerating enough but once again sarcasm doesn't come through on the internet.

I know that actual logs are produced and can be viewed and I know that there are actual crash dumps being sent that are actually used for improvement.

Whole I don't believe in the "hide what's happening from the user" approach I get that Microsoft isn't actually malicious or hates their users.

Again sorry for dropping the /s

  • So ... I was also interested by that question and intrigued by that photo, so I put on my research cap and went away.

From what I found out it seems to be both:

A staged photo/shot but from a historical movie called Dr. Mabuse the Gambler .

I was able to find the movie on YouTube with A seance scene which however does not seem to be the same scene (or at least a different angle) from the picture. If anyone has the time to scroll through all 4h of that movie the scene in the picture might be in there.

  • Yeah ... No.

I'm generally not a fan of party politics (though I realize you often have to bite the bullet on voting). But the pirate party here (Germany) is a really problematic bunch some of them thinking freedom means free markets some of them thinking free speech means they should be able to say hateful Nazi shit ... Really not a party I want to vote for, even in a pinch.
