    1. I love garlic stuffed olives, but have to eat them with chopsticks to slow myself down.
    2. My dogs love Pupperonis (one letter away from pepperoni), but I call them puppereenies so they don't go ape shit when discussing toppings....

Edit: Swipe typing is getting worse every day, fixed auto assumptions...

  • Yup. You get the Jellyfin server installed on a "real"computer, hooked up to whatever storage you need, then you install a client app on the Pi, or even use a web browser to connect to the server.

    The benefit of keeping them separate;

    1. you don't have to look at the server and array of hard drives
    2. you can use any device with a web browser to talk to the server; phones, tablets, even the Amazon fire stick has a Jellyfin client app
  • I blocked my "smart" TV from the Internet and just had a Raspi hooked up through hdmi. Another comment mentions putting your media library on an old laptop and hiding it in a closet, out of sight. Then you can run Plex/Jellyfin/Web browser on the Pi, with whatever keyboard/mouse you want to control it.

  • Red letter media

I love Star Trek, but don't want to watch the modern Alex kurtzman garbage, so they take the bullet for me.

I'm also not a movie guy, so watching their reviews/analysis while playing Minecraft is more entertaining than the movies they talk about.

Best of the worst is them watching B and direct to video movies that i wouldn't otherwise know about.

  • For me, it was the lack of support for certain Wi-Fi cards. I had to pull an older Wi-Fi card out of an old Chromebook, because no flavor of Linux supported the card that came with the (Windows 11) laptop. And guess who has two thumbs and no Ethernet port...

Finally got it working, but at one point i was almost willing to have a USB tether to my phone, just so i wouldn't have to fight with windows anymore.

Edit: Just realized it said desktop, but my desktop also has Wi-Fi, i just haven't had the courage to switch fully from my Spectre Win 10 install...

  • I haven't used bumble, but I stopped using Grindr after having to dismiss four fucking ads before I got to the meat (20ish of them before it tells me to subscribe...).

I get trying to get paying customers, but make the free version limited, not a pain to use.

  • The only "creation" I've tried to do is a cover letter for job hunting. If I needed something other than a resume, portfolio AND references, then I see nothing wrong with using one to do work that another ai is going to look at... Just my $0.02

  • Whenever i search for a problem now, most of the posts that contain actual answers are more than a year old, and increasingly out dated.

Fortunately, Lemmy is tech savvy and small enough that I can ask questions without worrying about the down vote brigade.

  • I'm in a red state and have spent my life holding my tongue when these people start spouting their bullshit.

I'm done being nice. Unfortunately, they are taking us all down with them, but you can bet your ass I'm going to be reminding them of that the entire time.

I'm also shoe-stringing it, I'm posting this from an extended stay hotel at $60 a day because my credit is shit. My biggest gift is my ability to read and take instructions, so watching the mouth breathing red hats getting laid off is a small, but sweet, consolidation to all this crap...
