  • A few months ago I was looking at the menu of a vietnamese restaurant on UberEats. Every description for every item was AI generated (it had a little disclaimer informing you of this). I wonder if the restaurant was even aware of this? Do they get a choice?

The descriptions listed ingredients. I feel like it could be a liability issue if the AI generated descriptions leaves off an ingredient that could be an allergen for someone.

    edit: found an example:

  • thanks!

  • Anyone have a link to a version large enough for a 4k wallpaper?

  • I remember aged 5 watching my dad install Windows 95 from the floppy disk edition. I think that took like a dozen or so floppies?

  • Are you interpreting it literally? It's a figure of speech—a kind of hyperbole; it's just a way of implying something was common, not that literally every person had one.

Whether it actually was common though, I don't know. Joe here might be taking some liberties for the sake of a catchy thumbnail.

  • Could someone explain this please? I'm still a noob.

  • Must be a Murphy bathtub.

  • It's really easy now to scan an entire book with your phone. There are apps (eg Scanner Pro) that can take pictures of two pages at once and split them into individual pdf pages.

I done this with several books over the years. I place my phone on a tripod, point it down on a well lit book, and start scanning. A 300 page book might take about an hour to scan.

  • It depends on your needs. The typography and image quality is much superior for print than ebooks usually. That being said, I still get ebooks for large reference books so I can search them and copy/paste, eg programming related books. I also read foreign language ebooks so I can lookup the meaning of any word I don't know with my phone's dictionaries, or translate a phrase or sentence.

  • I keep tabs open for active projects. Once the project is over, I bookmark them for future reference.

  • It's a bit tenuous to me to say that it's "made of shit". Made from shit yes, but it's no longer shit at that point. It's made from atoms that were originally part of molecules that comprised shit.

Fertilizer is often (most often?) made from shit. Would you say the plants that grow from shit are "made of shit"?

  • They're very easy to install. It's almost as easy as installing a shower head.

There are also compact battery powered portable handheld bidets that work about as well as the real thing. I have one I take with me on trips.

  • Not a protector per se, but I put this cover on my iPad that makes it feel like paper when you write on it. The cover magnetically attaches so I can put it on and take it off as needed.

  • "White Mirror" as a name makes no sense. A screen doesn't turn white when it's off.

  • I've had a mid-tier OLED tv the last few months. The colors and contrast look phenomenal to me. You get true black on OLED since each pixel is individually lit.

I watch a lot of horror films which will have many dimly lit or night time scenes. OLED makes those scenes much easier to see because of increased contrast between dark and light.

  • So many people think Mac is an acronym for whatever reason, as in "Do you use MAC or PC?".

I don't know why they think this. It was never formatted that way in any of Apple's marketing materials.

It really annoys me. In my head when I read it I hear "MAC" pronounced in the voice of Gilbert Godfrey.

I'm guessing they're confusing it with MAC addresses? They probably saw the term somewhere and wrongly assumed it had something to do with Apple Macs.
