  • People long for connections with other people that aren't sporadic or contingent or volatile or shallow. People need so much more support and social contacts than they get and they need so much more time to support and nourish these contacts, but they get neither of them, capitalism as always is burning the candle from both ends, creating ever more unstable life's and ever more pressure on people, while at the same time taking away any and all ways people would have to deal with them, through social connections and communities. Everyone you know is tired and needs somebody, but everyone you know is also too tired to be that somebody.

ChatGPT is never too busy to answer, ChatGPT never wants to talk about their own feelings, ChatGPT is never going to disagree with you, ChatGPT is never going to go away, ChatGPT doesn't have any other friends, ChatGPT is never going through it themselves, ChatGPT is never tired, ChatGPT is always there for you.

edit: people's brains have also been rewired to always expect complete instantaneous responses: we can get almost all entertainment there is within seconds, food delivered within half an hour, Amazon prime delivery the next morning and so on and so on. Writing to a friend and having to wait for them to reply for a day seems so archaic in comparison, especially when all these other much more immediate experiences all come through the same device using the same basic gestures and actions.

  • You interact with it the same way you do most human interaction nowadays, through text chat. And unlike human interaction it's completely immediate, it has vast amounts of knowledge compared to almost any human and it never tires of interacting with you. It's always there for you, unlike actual human beings, it "gets to know you" better than most human beings, you can tell it things you wouldn't tell human beings.

    AI will never leave you.

I really don't think there's much of a surprise why people are so attracted to these things. As with so many of capitalist inventions, nobody would find a need for these things if we didn't live in a world in which the chasm between human being gets wider and deeper every day and the weight placed upon them gets heavier and heavier at the same time. The difference between interacting without a real human friend that lives on the other side of the country through text and interacting with ChatGPT might bé neglegible for a lot of people.

  • videogames were invented in the 70s as like another version of pinball, they just never had a chance. at least music and books existed before capitalism, everything after that gets kinda iffy (movies somehow managed to be what they are despite capitalism, television, having been invented like 50 years later kinda just sucks).

if they invent another artform today it will suck even harder, its just capitalism continuing and continuing to destroy all the humanity and beauty in things

  • the reason the world could become as alienated and shitty as it has been is because capitalism has sold us the tools for (temporarily) escaping it. you think the world would look like it does if people were forced to actually interact with it?

  • Roommates complaining about the way the kitchen looks: a) it doesn't even look particularly bad b) of course it doesn't look sparkling clean, is use it every day, unlike you people who cook once every two weeks, if I only cooked once every two weeks it wouldn't be a problem keeping it sparkling clean, but I cook every single day, multiple times a day, you wouldn't keep it sparkling clean if you cooked more often either

    Kinda hate these guys

  • I feel like reverse engineering substitutes and basic concepts out of doing a lot of recipes sucks ass.

I sadly don't really think there's any other way of doing it. I don't really know of any books or YouTube channels that actually tell you what the cuisine of a place is like, they all just do individual recipes and don't tell you what the people in a specific culture actually eat on a day-by-day basis what their most basic recipes are and the like

  • I've known guys like you who let the not getting laid thing develop into an obsession and have had such an obsession myself a long time ago. I can't really help you with that, I couldn't help the other guys and I myself only really understood how ridiculous that attitude is after I spent some time in a relationship, so I didn't really need to outgrow it. I'm lonely again now and have been for years, but my experience tells me that fucking wouldn't somehow make me whole and it's not worth obsessing over. I can't transmit that to you, so basically there's just the drop in the bucket as my anecdotal evidence.

So you were in a relationship? Some person told you "I love you" and no matter how short it was for a single faction of your existence you were loved and desired by somebody? Somebody told you "I want to share my life (however brief) with you?" That's all I want, just give me a single second of that and I'll never complain again. It's not about getting laid, it's about being desired. And being desired is a basic normal human need and when that need is not met and has never been met you'll lose your mind.

That's why you grew out of it when you had a relationship.

Sorry for having a mental illness, sorry for being stupid, sorry for being socially inept, sorry for not being a productive worker sorry for not being normal sorry for being born to poor parents who beat me, sorry for not rising above my class, sorry for being not normal, sorry for being such a loser, do I now deserve love?????????

  • I've focused on myself for my entire life. I've become a genuine authentic person with interests hobbies passions. The only things I haven't been able to do was become integrated in a community (they just don't exist anymore) or exploit my life for money. I don't have money. My goals and aspirations are to not become another cog in the machine, to not be broken down by capitalism, to not exploit my existence for cold cash. Sadly that's not very attractive to woman, who are smarter than me who know that you can't live without money and that it sucks to be poor and that it's better to live inauthentic fake easy lives that real authentic hard lives
