Running General Chat - Weekly Thread Sat 26 October 2024
  • Just ran a half marathon today. Finished at 2:12. I was aiming for 2hrs but I still have a lot of room for improvement.

Followed the 2hrs pacers for 6km, finally accepted that it wasn't sustainable for me yet (HR reached 190).

Planning to do some deadlifts in the upcoming months before getting back to higher running volume.

Jokes aside, every country will now have to face increasingly unpredictable catastrophes...we need to quit the oil and gas industry for real. Really hope that they will be held accountable for real 😔

  • How much would a knee meniscus surgery costs in Taiwan with the NIH

    Hi folks,

I've been living in Taiwan for years so I have the NIH. Recently my knee is acting up and will get super painful during runs. As much as I want to deny it, I suspect that I have a meniscus tear 😢.

If that is the case, I don't know if I have the financial means to support the treatment, so I want to ask if there's anyone here with an experience with knee meniscus repair or ACL reconstruction surgery in Taiwan?

Any recommendations for a hospital or doctor? How much did it cost or did you get quoted?

    Thank you very much!

German football coach condemns 'racist' TV survey that asked participants if they wanted to see more white players on the national football team
  • The problem here is that it's a yes or no question. It's not "how do we solve problem x" but "should we just deal with x by doing y?" - which is a call for action in that exact line of thinking.

This survey is not objective, it's subjective, with racism as part of the subjectivity.

  • German football coach condemns 'racist' TV survey that asked participants if they wanted to see more white players on the national football team
  • Sorry to see you downvoted, but hear me out. If I create a survey, for example, asking: "do we need to carry out a ethnic cleaning on a certain ethnicity of this country?" It implies that:

    1. The survey creator and people who approve of it think that there is a substantial chunk of people who will say yes.

    2. That the idea is a valid one and if you don't agree with it, it is valid for others to think that it is reasonable.

The idea of killing/kicking-out of people based on their race, is a part of what defines racism. The survey which validates such an idea, is racist.

  • It’s not just boomers, young people are voting far right too
  • Yes true, my perception is biased to a local housing problem where younger people can't afford apartments while old rich people own so many.

Regardless, it's still sad that immigrants are being blamed. Even urbanisation means that they're citizens of that country, and they caused the problem themselves.

  • Man with suspended license astonishes judge by joining court Zoom call while driving
  • He's an idiot, true, and shouldn't drive at least until a fair assessment says otherwise. I was saying that there should be a better, less costly, and safe transportation for people who can't or don't want to drive to get around.

  • I'm from a third world country in the global South, of course I don't support any destruction. How is saying nuking a region a support to stop destruction?

Also: I wasn't accusing them of being a bot, but I can't imagine anyone not being paid or manipulated to support nuking Europe as if it's a good idea.
