  • Calling it quits, I can't in good conscience bring more birds in knowing they'll spend their entire lives inside. I bought a bag of organic flax from a buddy who grows it instead and have been using that in all my baking as an egg replacement

  • I'd be extremely careful doing this right now with bird flu, the first h5n1 death was linked to a backyard flock of birds. I've had multiple neighbors with backyard chickens who lost them to bird flu in the last few years. I've moved my small flock of chickens/ducks/guineafowl inside full time, and will not be replacing any birds lost in the future until I have none remaining.

  • These retaliatory tariffs seem kinda odd, only effect about 25% of total imports and a lot of them seem to be things that would directly increase cost of living when that's what has led to the collapse of the liberal government. I would have thought fruits/veg would have been excluded not specifically targeted as that's a large majority of our fresh produce in winter.

American liquor like beer, wine and spirits, vegetables, clothing, shoes and perfume will be among the first items to face Canadian retaliatory tariffs. Canada will also put tariffs on American consumer products such as household appliances, furniture and sports equipment.

  • any time something crosses the border it already has paperwork submitted with the goods on the truck, the value, the country of origin, and classification (what kind of good it is) to determine the tax and duty due to be paid by the importing company. all they have to do is adjust the tariff rates in the computer system, so it will be collected as soon as these go into effect on Tuesday

  • Yes I was just making a hasty comparison of the poor efficacy of 12 step programs to the poor efficacy of long term diet and exercise programs, when other better alternatives exist for both scenarios. Didn't want to imply eating as an addiction. Apologies for the poor choice

  • Not sure why only BC/Alberta/Saskatchewan are split in Canada? Northern Alberta and BC would be chud heaven and Southern Saskatchewan would have a population of like 40,000 people because the border is south of every major city in the province. Funny map 10/10

  • My bro is having stomach issues to the point of only being able to eat broth and plain oatmeal. I went digging around and sure enough, there's decent studies that show about 10% of people develop new stomach issues in the 6 months post COVID, both IBS and other "disorders of the gut brain interaction" or DGBIs.

Got laughed at like a paranoiac when I brought it up though lol.

  • Chloramines suck to get rid of, brewers sometimes use metabisulfite tablets . Pool people superchlorinate the water with free chlorine/bleach, which breaks down the chloramine then quickly gasses off. Carbon filters don't work that well for chloramines, you have to really slow down flow for it to be effective. Not sure if any of these techniques would have any effect on the anions in this paper.
