A group of largely female fans are calling for the striker not to represent the club again ahead of the opening game of their new season
A group of Manchester United supporters are plotting a series of protests to make it clear they do not want Mason Greenwood to be reintegrated into the club’s plans.
The fans, who are all regular Old Trafford match-goers, intend to make their feelings clear outside the stadium before United’s opening game of the season at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
A banner has been made, in United’s colours, with the message: “Female Fans Demand No Greenwood Return – End Violence Against Women.”
“It’s time for the club to stand up and make the right decision,” one of the organisers told The Athletic, speaking on condition of anonymity due to fears of being targeted by Greenwood’s supporters. “It’s time to say, ‘We have high standards at United about how we expect players to conduct themselves and, if you do not meet those standards, you need to be moved out’.
“This is a tipping point for the club. Are they going to side with commercialism and trophies and money? Or are they going to take the side of match-going fans, and the club being a social and community institution that we can be proud of, and proud to have as part of our identity?”
Greenwood, 21, has not played for United since he was arrested in January 2022 relating to a tape being released on social media of an alleged sexual attack.
He subsequently faced a police investigation resulting in charges against him for attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Greenwood denied all the alleged offences.

I genuinely question whether he has the quality required for United though? He hasn't played professional football for something around eighteen months now - no amount of training will make up for that.
Tbh, it would be very funny if United brought him back and he played like shit.
Just bin the fucker already
Eh, why? I was under the impression that this is because PSG owners agreed to a very stupid contract and Mbappé is holding them to it.
Real Madrid are incredibly fucked, what a disaster for them.
Real Madrid are fucked aren't they

Feel so bad for the poor kid, having to deal with shit like this at 17 is insane. Especially stupid because at that age he is already one of the club's better players, and one of Argentina's brightest prospects.
Pretty damn cool tbh
Hold on, I found a non-paywalled article: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-03-03/spain-france-canada-player-boycotts-paradox-of-power-womens-game/102037590
It's a great read, if rather depressing.
And yeah it's an absolute shitshow. Feel bad for the Spanish team who are the strongest they've been in a long time, but have to deal with this situation.
Here's a good article by the Athletic about it (paywalled though.)
Short version, fifteen players (mostly from Barcelona) protested against unprofessional treatment from Vilda and his coaching staff, and insufficient resources and backing from the federation. They requested not to be called up to the national team. Federation supported Vilda fully but later offered a compromise on certain issues, which is why some of the fifteen later returned for the World Cup. However, Spain are still missing key players who are continuing the boycott, most notably Mapi León.
I'm inclined to to believe the players on this, you don't have fifteen players refuse to play for their national team (with public support from another three, including Alexia Putellas) without having some serious problems.
Reminder that the Spanish football federation are a bunch of cunts (especially Rubiales) who would rather save face than support their players, and that Jorge Vilda is a useless, disgusting fuckwit who only got his job because of nepotism.
Wish you all the best with the job hunt!
I just steal them from Reddit lol. I actually asked how to clip goals myself once, but I can't be arsed fiddling around with that, and in any case I doubt anyone wants to see my shitty illegal stream. Let me know if you find a good source!
Yeah, the backlash would be massive but it will probably happen. Wonder if he's still got the quality required for United though - he hasn't played professional football in what, a year and a half? Might get loaned out somewhere.
procrastinator - football fan - she/her
I hope you have a nice day!
