Costs of living in Montreal
  • Apartment

    • On the Island you'll have a hard time finding any apartment under 1000$, the last one I had was 1200$ for a 3-1/2 (2 years ago) and it was disgusting and unsanitary (thank the lords i got out bug free).
    • Maybe if you go way north MTL you can find some cheaper, but transport is going to be harder since the metro is more focused down south of the island.
    • Look for people who want roomates on Facebook or Kijiji
    • My advice is to look outside Montreal in Laval or Longueuil, rent will be cheaper though bus/metro fare will be a little more.

    Transportation

    • Metro+Bus is about 120$/month with tax, for the Montreal Island (Zone A) this is unlimited fare across the island.
    • There is also Bixi which is a bicycle rental service, costs 22$/month and let's you grab a nearby bike and go where you need. There are stations all over the island where you can park/grab one, and even electric assisted bikes.
    • Communauto is like Bixi but for cars, once signed in it shows nearby cars and you can reserve one for the day or so. Just need to make sure to park it where it's allowed. Very useful since owning a car in Montreal is a big pain especially during winter. So this gives the advantage of one without the hassle.

    Food

    • I can't really tell you about standard groceries
    • I gave up on prepping and organizing the fridge and switched to Hello Fresh, which ends up being 110$/week for 5 suppers. I still need to figure out lunch and breakfast, they sell some though.

    Gym

    • I don't do gym, but i've got colleagues who do it. Econofitness is popular and you'll find one almost anywhere (259$/year for the week-long pass). You'll save money by looking at what's close and getting your workout from a local business instead though.
  • Hi-Fi Rush (A Patient Review)
  • oh fuck I didn't know about Ghostwire, game blew my mind with how good it looked and how fast it ran. Gameplay was fun too, i should play it again.

  • Is there a tool somewhere that lets me create such a table for other shows?

Quick search got me this very nice

  • I don't have such weakness
  • I'm not a resident of the US, is it just PH? 'Cause that just means it'll get lower visits and other sites will be promoted up instead. So ultimately a useless law?

Edit: So not just ph, cool good luck enforcing that throughout the internet

  • Apple is halting its next high-end Vision in favor of something cheaper
  • okay, yea porn apps are not going to be allowed on the appstore. Does Oculus even have any in their store?

For either headsets you can still go through Steam link though, or sideload 'em

  • Apple is halting its next high-end Vision in favor of something cheaper
  • you can't watch porn on the apple vision headsets?

  • I just ordered a 3ds from AliExpress - Wish me luck.

  • Well yk Nintendo was first with the x & y position, but Sega did x & y reversed to keep the alphabet order I assume (so a,b,c on the bottom and x,y,z on top row for the Sega Saturn controller) and then xbox copied the Dreamcast controller (i say copied but there might have been some sort of cooperation between the two ??). The rest is history.

Really it's annoying to switch between the different layouts for sure, but Nintendo has just kept to their standards set since they did the SNES

  • AI 'gold rush' for chatbot training data could run out of human-written text
  • Something I don't quite get is: do they need that much material? Once they train with all of humanity's texts, why would it need more? If I wanted to learn syntax and all that is required for proper spelling I wouldn't even need 1/1000th (less even) of what they've fed it already. I get it's not just spelling, but if we don't have any more to feed it shouldn't it already know all there is to answer our questions?

Makes me wonder if it's not the amount of data that's the issue, but more of how it's built.

  • Could be wrong: I've been told they are already signed up to give the money no matter, us giving that dollar is just padding for their tax write offs.

  • HTC Announces ‘Vive XR Elite Deluxe Pack’, Including 4 Free Accessories for Its Flagship Quest Competitor
  • I'm comparing the Quest 2 vs this on VR-compare and i dont see how this competes with the Quest 2 let alone the third. (so much for competing vs Quest Flagship)

VS the Quest 2 it's got the same resolution (albeit 2x lcd instead of 1x), around the same fov, same ppd, Lower refresh rate (90hz vs 120hz). It's also about 3x the price of the quest 2.

The only thing it's got better are color cameras for passthrough, then we'd compare to the Quest 3 and it's losing in pretty much everything, otherwise matching.

Props to them tho for offering these free accessories

  • Moonlight PC for game streaming via Sunshine gets HDR support for Linux / Steam Deck
  • awe sad, my friend had to do the steam link speed test a couple times before it seemed to notice that it could go over 100mbps. Both of us are using Windows so that might also be a factor yea

  • Moonlight PC for game streaming via Sunshine gets HDR support for Linux / Steam Deck
  • Ooh good to see Moonlight is still getting support, works alright for games that doesn't require low latency.

I recently started playing through the Steam Link app and it works way better, latency is not an issue.

Launches in Big Picture mode so it's as if i've got a SteamDeck, and my whole library is at my fingertips
