Video Game Execs Are Ruining Video Games
  • It's related to the bonus system. Execs are rewarded for share price increases instead of making good games. They'll alienate the whole playerbase and ruin 30% of future sales for 5% increase in revenue for current sales. The 5% is enough to increase the share price so that CEO's are entitled to compensation. So to min-max as a CEO it's best to alienate the playerbase.

Also spending more money on marketing than on the game will result in more games sold at the cost of next games sales in the same franchise.

The games industry is well overdue for a more product focused approach for brand building. Diablo 5 will probably never be made since polling will suggest no interest. It was a major cash cow and Diablo 3 sold like crazy because Diablo 2 was great. It's the enshittification of video games in full swing.

The entrenched Blizzard Activision is getting out competed by Paradox but Paradox is starting to screw up in the same ways by releasing Cities Skylines 2 without mod support. Cities Skylines 1 was good because of mods and Cities Skylines 2 is good, but not as good as 1 with mods.

Big companies should take a lesson from the indie book and do more closed betas, more early access and more mod support. Sell DLCs that improve a complete game instead of it being the last 10% of the unfinished game. Adding a map section like in Horizon Zero Dawn is great.

  • President Biden announces a series of tariffs on green energy products from China.
  • I mean, there is a case for discussing gas prices since it's the price of mobile energy for everything from tractors to trucking to electricity. The gas price, specifically crude oil price, used to be synonymous with energy prices so any increase in oil price would mean a major hit to cost-of-living increases.

    It's outdated as hell.

  • A Classic Concept Car, as Classic as they get!
  • For anyone wondering why people don't make cars like this it's because of front crashes with pretty much anything becomes extremely deadly.

It's the same reason why lights that pop out of the hood were banned.

  • Oxygen
  • Oxidative stress is a major factor in health and longevity. People who stop breathing oxygen before dieing generally live a bigger proportion of their lives healthy on average.

  • KDE Plasma needs stability
  • Sure it has a couple of bugs but it has been super solid. I'm on KDE Neon which is the least stable Plasma distro and I barely notice bugs. Once a month Plasma crashes but it does a full recovery with windows in the exact same places.

  • Why can't people make ai's by making a neuron sim and then scaling it up with a supercomputer to the point where it has a humans number of neurons and then raise it like a human?
  • AI is a very slow learner still. The base OS for humans is really advanced with hormones biases built in and a initial structure connected to input and outputs.

Sure, it's possible but we're not there yet. It could be still 10-100 years until we manage to get a good one, depending on how we don't know yet.

  • Activities destroyed when swapping apps HyperOS

Does anybody else experience that Android activities get destroyed and rebuilt all the time when switching between apps?

Browser page gets reloaded and form values disappear.

Authorising a payment in different app can make the payment fail.

General bad experience when multitasking 3 apps and swapping between.

(I'm on Redmi Note 12 with HyperOS)

Who of you guys are on an "Unknown" OS?

I've been wondering how many Linux users are being listed as unknown by statcounter out of curiosity. There has been a big global bump "Unknown".

Obvious ones are UserAgent spoofers Vpn users but I feel like that's pretty niche. I'm wondering if SteamOS, Endeavour and BSD show up as Unknown. Furthermore, will just all non-Ubuntu based OS?

Distro for a local "cloud gaming" no monitor desktop

I'm looking for a specific distro to handle some tasks.

I got a second hand rig with Nvidia GTX 1050 that I want to use as a home server. I wanted to use HoloISO but it doesn't support nvidia. If someone says "do it anyway, it's fine" I'll install it though.

The idea is to support a Jellyfin server and Steam Link gaming but steam is not big on Nvidia so it's hard to narrow down "black screen" issues etc. I'm also planning to manage it via VNC and SSH.

I'm familiar with Ubuntu based systems since I develop software on Ubuntu based KDE distro but never had a graphics card.

    So it boils down to:

    • Ease of setup including nvidia drivers
    • Ease of update via command line (I'm not going to download nvidia drivers from their website to update proprietary drivers)
    • Graphics performance
    • Prefer Ubuntu based

I'm up for Gnome, Xface, Cinnamon, KDE or whatever DE.

Edit: Changed title to better reflect requirements and not have misleading "headless" and "server" in it

The setup and instructions helped a lot with setting up. My library is small and local now but the future is bright. Thank you all for writing info answers and docs.

Special thanks for all the devs of Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr, Torrent clients and nzb360.

Extra special thanks to the devs at Jellyfin. Honestly this whole set blew my mind.
