Jesus dude. The entire world doesn't base their views entirely upon what you personally believe. Many people actually have their own ideas and motivations that have nothing at all to do with your infantile perspective of politics. Occasionally, when presented with something that defies your expectations, it's reasonable to step back and reconsider what you believe.
Because the safety of X has nothing at all to do with discussing the safety of Y, so small minded people will gawk at how large a number 99.5% is, without ever even stopping to ask if it's reasonable to compare those two things.
That same problem still exists even when sorting by upvotes, because the earlier a comment is posted the more people will see and be able to vote on it, pushing it higher.
Laws aren't enough for something of this magnitude. The general population needs to grow to match the much greater challenges presented by modern technology, or we're going to descend into another dark age until we do learn how to behave.
How about instead of ragging on kids these days we see that there is a very serious problem brewing, regarding how we're expecting to maintain this high tech society we've built going forwards. I would posit that it was the planning done by generations prior that has left society in a state where youth are not gaining skills that will be needed simply to maintain the status quo, let alone improve anything.
I've had arguments with people in simple little games, where the points barely matter at all, because some people get upset if others don't play for pure efficiency.
No. Even senators have to follow the laws in America. This isn't China.
