In the post that preceded the end of her time at Blue Fish Pediatrics, Propst alluded to how Kerr county had – like Texas as a whole – voted in favor of Trump as he defeated former vice-president Kamala Harris in November’s White House election. Trump’s administration has since eliminated mentions of the ongoing climate crisis and its consequences, one of which is downpours like the one that devastated Kerr becoming more common. He has also mused about “phasing out” the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema), in part so that the president’s office could be in charge of distributing disaster relief funds and ultimately “give out less money”.
It might be nice to have this pediatrician's skills in another state, perhaps a blue one.
She added:
“Kerr county Maga voted to gut Fema. They deny climate change. May they get what they voted for.”
Yes, I'm in agreement. May we all have the day we voted for.
The body approved a measure that the NEA “will not use, endorse, or publicize materials from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), such as its curricular materials or statistics.” The reasoning: “Despite its reputation as a civil rights organization, the ADL is not the social justice educational partner it claims to be.”
Union members speaking on the floor rejected the ADL’s abuse of the term “antisemitism” to punish critics of Israel, its use of hyperinflated statistics on hate crimes to gin up fears about Jewish safety, and its characterization of calls for Palestinian rights as “hate speech.”
“Allowing the ADL to determine what constitutes antisemitism would be like allowing the fossil fuel industry to determine what constitutes climate change,” said NEA delegate Stephen Siegel from the assembly floor.
NEA members also cited the ADL’s history of discouraging anti-racist organizing, including attacking the anti-Apartheid and Black Lives Matter movements.
I'm glad the educators have dumped this genocide-enabling organization.
Your poem is very appropriate - you might want to break that down into two lines, give it a title, post it on c/poetry@lemmy.world, and don't forget to add the [OC] tag.
Let's just see how it does there. You can count on my up-vote.
But don't feel obligated - strictly if you felt like doing this. Have a good day.
The workers secured the agreement following a credible strike threat at the largest beef processing plant in the U.S. The new contract includes massive improvements, including 32 percent wage increases, more paid time off, and expanded retirement benefits.
I'm so happy for the workers. They deserve this and more.
You can feel their fear. They lost the narrative for their crimes against humanity and they're trying to do whatever they can to prevent the spreading of the truth.
Such sweeps have been on the rise, especially since a May meeting in which top White House officials placed significant pressure on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) officials to step up arrest numbers.
“Why aren’t you at Home Depot?” the White House adviser Stephen Miller reportedly asked the Ice top managers during the heated meeting, where Ice was instructed to arrest at least 3,000 people a day under Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, which would amount to a million arrests a year.
Ice raids and arrests outside Home Depot outlets last month led to massive demonstrations in Los Angeles in particular. The protests set up a showdown between the California state government and the Trump administration, after the US president deployed the national guard over the objection of the governor, in a rare and extreme move, to clamp down on the pockets of fierce protests across the sprawling metropolis.
I hope Stephen Miller, ICE employees, and the rest of their ilk get what they deserve.
Beautiful! These small blog entries bring me such joy.
