Let's talk about Floorp
  • Unless it's donation-ware, I am not convinced that much software can be much of a business while also preventing the decay of that software.

So, mark the day in the history of Floorp -- chances are this is the beginning of the end of the things that make the product unique in the market and important to users.

  • Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone Can’t Let Go Of Stardew Valley - Aftermath
  • I did see a nice YouTube post from an artist recently about how a lot of artists in America also seem to have perhaps bought into the myth that they must work, develop, and improve themselves alone. The poster insisted that this concept of the lone artist rising from nowhere to success was a myth spread by those wishing to isolate artists on purpose, and that artists should do the exact opposite to as extreme an extent as their capacity for being around others would permit.

It's hard, tho, I get it. As a technologically oriented creative, I am also extremely introverted. But I know for a fact that avoiding collaboration has stunted my artistic growth.

  • As a software developer who loves lovable games, I am an enormous admirer of Mr. Barone and wish him the best of continued fortune.

I also wish that it was easier for independent developers to have time to build their artistic vision like this.

Does all the best art require suffering, though? Idk. I feel like that is maybe a myth invented by the exploiters.

  • [Comic] Have any of you read Shatter or Hard-Boiled?
  • These look rad, and I will be trying to find copies now, so thank you. I used to play a lot of interactive fiction games, text only and images including, so I know I am gonna enjoy these from a medium and style perspective. There was this game called DeJaVu that was surprisingly immersive. Pretty good noir art.

Whether those books you mentioned are good cyberpunk, IDK. Let us know what you think after you read them?

  • Does anyone actually make phones that fit in hands anymore?
  • This M2 air laptop is the best device from them I have ever owned, but it hurts my wrists to use and the paint has already worn off a year in. The metal is cold to the touch, where it is supposed to be touched. It locks up if I touch the escape key while the screen is locked. The entire thing is an affront to human beings, except for its alleged "recyclability", which we all know is dubious.

All I want is a small lightweight device, with a warm-color, high resolution screen, and a nice comfy soft carbon fiber exterior, that doesn't guzzle electricity.

  • Just a friendly (depressing) reminder that poverty is a social construct. As a society we say, 'cool' everyday.
  • Back in 2003 when I was waiting tables during university studies, my Physics II professor gave us the equation to determine wattage from solar irradiance based on photovoltaic conversion rates. At the time, it was something like 30% efficiency. I did some napkin math, and figured out that it would take around $1.2 trillion to buy enough PV cells from a retail supplier to build a 90 mile by 90 mile square PV farm deployed somewhere like New Mexico which could generate enough electricity to power every economic sector in the US -- residential, commercial, industrial. Then, in 2008 during the mortgage and credit default swap financial crisis, Obama gave $800 billion of taxpayer funds directly to the banks to make them solvent, and directed the Fed to begin the disastrous QE policy, dumping $24+ trillion into the economy over the next decade and a half.

When Obama did that, that is when I realized that this country (America) and maybe even human beings at large are simply too stupid, too short-sighted, too selfish and primitive to do what is necessary to make our civilization a sustainable one.

  • Sycophancy just a fancy word for brown-nosing, is it not?

Do not either of these require a dynamic of power imbalance between the butt sniffer and the person to whom the butt being smelled belongs?

A bunch of my comrades were agreeing with me on lefty X, but a troll called all my friends sycophants. Rude! My comrades are my dialectic equals -- I wield no power over anyone beyond being correct, which sets them free in the truth.
