How do things get stuck in the anus?
  • Every patient I’ve had in the ER just slipped and fell on it. Crazy odds. Yeah, our bodies can’t push everything out whether because of size, shape, or integrity. I think the worst was the guy who had peeled ginger that got stuck. BDSM thing for him, used to be a form of torture. He was in a lot of pain and it took a while to get him to endoscopy.

  • Are DAPS worth it?
  • If you want a decent DAP for cheaper than a DAC/Amp, you can always get a used LG V50 ThinQ on Ebay for $50. You can use it as a 5G phone too if you want. Quad DAC, 3.5mm out, and it will drive 300ohm headphones well too. Solid display, stream from everywhere, play movies...just a thought.

  • Swimming with humpback whales in Tonga [OC]
  • Dolphins are so rad to swim with!! That's awesome you got to swim with them! Where was that at?

There were definitely some moments of fear. They are SO massive and playful but they lose track of where their tails go. So you had to watch out for them, especially when there were 7 whales playing in the same area. One or two were easy to keep an eye on, but more was a bit hectic. That said, engaging with them, being SEEN by them, having them respond to your spins and arm waving was incredible and I am so grateful and awestruck.

AMA: I was diagnosed with Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome four days ago.
  • ER nurse here. Yes, this is a real thing. Usually, the first symptom is a steadfast denial that cannabis is the cause, so props to you for acknowledging it is likely the cause of your pain nausea and emesis. It was tough to provide care for people twice a week who would refuse to believe cannabis was causing their symptoms. That said, it looks miserable so I was always bummed someone was going through it. It would often last longer than when they tried to quit too which feels a bit unfair and contributes to the denial. There is usually a distinct retching sound people make that would out them as CHS; it is not subtle. Two things that can help fairly reliably are 1) A hot shower and 2) capsaicin topical cream rubbed on the torso. Test the capsaicin cream on a small part of your forearm first to see if you are ok with it before you lather your chest. Something about that warming sensation made folks feel much better. YMMV. Best of luck to you and others that have CHS.

  • Hottest was about 56C when I ran the Badwater race through Death Valley. Coldest was about -27 when I was in Idaho…tried to jog that day too but couldn’t take the burn in my lungs.
