Did you get a fancy coffee maker? A few years ago I splurged and got one from Costco that grinds the beans as it makes it, totally worth it.

We've got some good answers in this thread, which is good to see. This question is really leading though, and not really meant to start a conversation so much as fire people up. I'm going to leave it up, but this isn't really the sort of conversation we're going for here.

This comment would've been a lot better without the insult. It had a good response, but starting any reply with "Fuck off", even if you felt insulted first, leads to yelling matches, which isn't what we're going for here

This comment would be better without the "I’m not gong to bother touching the idea you’ve got in your head" bit. It comes across as passive aggressive, and could be replaced with "It doesn't make sense to me" or similar without loss of meaning.

We're trying to foster chill conversation in this community, because there's plenty of other places online and on Lemmy for charged discussion.

That's a valid sentiment and deserves discussion, but this isn't the right community for it. We're trying to keep this community more casual and chill. It also probably breaks the TOS for discuss.online

You deserve an explanation as to why your cross-post of this was removed from !AskUSA@Discuss.Online: that instance has higher standards (though not quite Beehaw level) and we try to keep things “welcoming”, thus we made our top community rule #1 to “be nice”. And I felt that coming out swinging calling the whole country a “hellhole” went against that rule. I see that that is the top rule in this community as well, but I suppose there are differences in interpretation as to what that means.

Options from here: You may appeal to the head mod @m_f@discuss.online if you wish, as it does not strictly violate the rules of Discuss.Online itself. And/or you could re-phrase the title. Or you could even make a post asking for clarification of the rules/expectations - although note that this was already done recently and by far people seemed to express distaste for all the politics stuff, so we try to direct that to !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world instead. I’ve posted there myself in the last week, almost made another post there yesterday as well, and I highly recommend that community for things such as this. In fact, their sidebar text says that they love such self-posts of commentary, as opposed to like “news”, and even “discussion of and disagreement about issues is encouraged!”

So I get that you wanted to vent and discuss, and there absolutely are places to do that, I just wanted to protect the members of that community in particular from being constantly barraged with politics, bc as you seem to agree, dayum that shit gets old fast - it becomes overwhelming to so many of us to see all the BS that goes down almost daily now:-(. And maybe that’s one way that we can deal, by placing limits on how often we have to think about it each day:-).

We're still working out the kinks in moderation. This post was removed because it's not phrased in a way that's conducive towards casual conversation, but it's been restored so that there can be a discussion about what fits this community and what doesn't. IMO a title that would've fit this community better would be something along the lines of "How do you keep going day to day when things look grim?"

Also, this totally isn't on you @return2ozma@lemmy.world, since it was recommended you crosspost over here. We really appreciate people like you wanting to help out with keeping communities like ours active.
