OpenAI is reportedly going all-in as a for-profit company
  • I kinda liked the text you linked. Here’s a quote.

There are also structural changes that can be made to corporations to realign their values system with human welfare. Corporate charters can be amended to optimize for a triple bottom line of social, environmental, and financial outcomes (the so-called “triple Ps” of people, planet, and profit.)

This reminds me of what we are trying to do where I live. The hard thing is this requires a lot of work and it doesn’t just go against the corporate agenda; it goes against the normal lifestyle most everyone around us lives. It has made me want to quit sometimes.

But then again, true life is in true living among real people and real things, not in daydreaming of better days.

  • This is a bigger culture shock than the metric vs imperial system to me.
  • This is surprisingly annoying where I live and some houses use the British way and everyone uses the American way in speech.

We live on the American second floor. So whenever someone new comes to visit there is no easy answer to where our apartment is: if I tell them we are on the first floor, they won’t find us looking on the ground floor. If I say come to the second floor, they may use the elevator and press 2 which will then take them to the third floor.

Happens almost every time I’m not specific enough.

  • Silverbullet.md support Logseq like daily journal view?

I am an Obsidian user and quite happy. But there isn’t a good way to review and scroll daily notes in a Loqseq like fashion in Obsidian. (The plugins for that are unreliable and weak performance.) I have used Logseq but left because of mobile problems, cluttered markdown, and once losing months of data.

I don’t need most of the fancy plugin features of Obsidian aside the robust linking and snappy UI. But I would really like a Logseq like scrollable journal. So is it possible in Silverbullet or do you have another competitor that sounds what I want? Linux + iOS. Not necessarily self hosted but can be.

    Monitoring Borg backups
  • I just use ’’’borg list [mypath] | tail 1’’’ in my zshrc on my desktop to see the last backup date. I guess you could make it work on server if you mail that output to yourself or something similar. Maybe add it to your cronjob?

  • UmbrelOS with multiple drives?
  • Alright, Yunohost does seem much more mature than Umbrel. Maybe I’ll try it then. I was considering Debian with Docker also, to be able to use it with a screen if need be.

I don’t think I’ll open it up for internet though, maybe only some services by Tailscale.

  • UmbrelOS with multiple drives?
  • Well, I once set it up, and both the installation and usage were very simplistic. You couldn't specify anything during the installation except the drive where to install. And since you can't change app paths either (at least through GUI), I wonder if I can take advantage of a secondary drive. Maybe I'll just try it out again. I'm planning on setting up a home server but wonder if Umbrel is good for that.

  • UmbrelOS with multiple drives?

Hi! Could someone tell me if the current (real OS) UmbrelOS supports multiple internal drives?
