  • Thank you for getting it, both on the age group voting stats and that the leopards+faces meme/community is about trump doing things that hurt his voters specifically, not things that harm our most vulnerable people throughout the whole country regardless of their politics.

  • Exactly. Gloating about the demise of a major safety net of the United States does not belong in the Leopards eating faces community because it affects everyone in the country and especially the elderly and disabled, not just trump voters. People in every state are upset about it, not just people in Oklahoma/red states.

Best wishes to you and your brother.

  • OK boomer

edit: I'm actually glad to see the downvotes on this comment because I'm sick of people using "boomer" as an insult (which is why I replied with this as a retort to the poster who did that). Thanks for those recognizing we're in a class war, not a culture war and downvoting it!

  • Yep, I'm seeing more and more blaming all Americans no matter that almost as many voted for Harris as for trump and no matter how hard so many worked to defeat him. So no surprise they're fine with innocent people losing their social security.

  • I wouldn't gloat over this one, because a huge number of people who didn't vote for it will also face the same consequences and many of them will suffer and/or die because they depend on social security for their main or sole income.

  • If these elections do show a backlash against the Trusk regime with Dems winning in red and purple areas, NOW is the time to find, recruit and support true progressives to run in the primaries and primary the usual spineless Dem candidates from their left.

The climate is ripe for taking control of the Dem party and completely transforming it over the next few election cycles**, just like the TEA party did to the republican party. Don't sit and wait while the same old Dems easily win their primaries--challenge and replace them with better candidates who will fight for us.

** subject to continued existence of free and fair elections

  • The system changes you; you don’t change the system within.

And yet the magats did--they completely transformed the republican party--by getting their candidates "within" it. They started with the TEA party which didn't try to get elected running as a 3rd party, which is impossible, but ran as tea party republicans. They made sure there were tea party candidates in every repub primary they could, running to the right of the "mainstream" R candidate. They won many of those primaries simply because it's the activists who turn out for the primaries while most ignore them. Then in the general they won because republicans vote for whoever has the R by their name without thinking about it too much. This moved the R party to the right and drove out R moderates. Yes there were some losses because of the R being too far to the right for the general, but overall it brought the R party to what we see today.

  • The external player thing has never worked for me, at least when I set it to VLC, which just displays an error. I must be missing something.

Edit: thanks for the replies, next time I'll try mpv and/or haruna

  • It would be more effective to threaten sanctions if the US proceeds if the goal is it to deter them, then if it doesn't work, you impose them as punishment and a bargaining chip to get them to pull back.

  • Good grief, why compare it to a mango of all things that would be around that size?! Just say x in. (y cm.) Besides, their size isn't exactly uniform. Per Wikipedia:

The fruits may be somewhat round, oval, or kidney-shaped, ranging from 5–25 centimetres (2–10 in) in length and from 140 grams (5 oz) to 2 kilograms (5 lb) in weight per individual fruit.

That's quite a range. And BTW is coming up with objects to compare things to a job position that exists? I want to apply for that. You'd spend the day browsing databases of things by size and picking out the weirdest ones.

  • American representatives were seen walking around the city, canvassing residents to see if people would be interested in a visit from the vice president’s wife.

Shouldn't they have done that before they scheduled the trip? Could have saved themselves the embarrassment. This reminds me of Vance's trip to the donut shop during the campaign.

  • The next big one is Hands Off on the following Saturday, April 5th. It will be in every state capital and major city.

  • Everyone knows that. The point is to create a deterrent by making it clear that they are 1) taking the threat seriously and 2) already preparing and planning to defend, IOW not fucking around. Sending some extra troops to the island and/or flying some jets around the area on a regular isn't a bad idea either.

  • You don't seem to be getting the point of this thread.

  • NATO countries should put out a statement that they are ready to defend Greenland from any incursion.
