Pledges coming from proprietary software companies mean nothing
Get behind the community that is \really\ fighting to curb climate change:
Season of KDE (SoK) participants have improved translations, Kdenlive, LabPlot and more.
SoK is KDE's mentorship program that helps members of the public become active open source contributors.
This year, participants have translated apps into more languages, implemented multi-format rendering and keyframe curve editing in @kdenlive , ported @be4foss testing tools to Windows, added options for importing and exporting data to @LabPlot and much, much more.
MBition, the company that designs and implements infotainment systems for Mercedes-Benz, has become a KDE patron.
MBition uses KDE technologies and developers' know-how to create attractive and responsive interfaces that make Mercedes vehicles easier to drive and safer for their occupants.
KDE will mentor ten projects in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) this year. Congrats to everyone who got selected!
This year's wide range of projects includes Python support for the KDE Frameworks and Labplot, PDF Javascript forms support in Okular, more powerful subtitles in Kdenlive, and much more.
No ads, no spyware, no demos, as all software is fully functional and free. Also no subscriptions, no license fees, no unwanted communications.
A KDE-based system includes lots of customization possibilities (i.e. you can change practically everything in you system and desktop environment), but is also perfectly functional as is, even if you do not change a thing.
KDE software will work on most hardware, even on old, under-powered computers.

The KStars project releases version 3.7.0 of the app for education and astronomy aficionados🪐🌠.
Apart from it's inbuilt planetarium, KStars 3.7.0 helps you improve the focus of your astrophotography, adds features that match the simulated view and what you see through your telescope, improves comparing multiple images, and makes scheduling your observations easier.

So we also managed to avoid having all those machines ending up in landfills, polluting the soil and waterways because providers of proprietary OSes only want you to buy new stuff and ignore the impact on the environment.

KDE provided the software that allowed to recover machines that had been obsoleted by the successive updates from Microsoft Windows, and this made possible for the CACD to carry out the program.

We provided support and advice so that the teens could familiarise themselves with open source software, saving them from being trapped in the proprietary cycle of buy new hardware, update, be forced to buy new hardware, update, rinse and repeat.
