Same. When we had our attic insulation replaced, I was incredibly impressed at the crew crawling around up in that heat and knocking it out in 1 day.

Kudos for doing it yourself and for wearing the proper PPE. Fiberglass is nasty. Good luck with the rest of the project, nothing more satisfying then a well maintained house!

Depending on what they like, I'd probably tailor my recommendations i.e. if they're more into action, drama, comedy, sci-fi, slice of life, etc.

In general though, my go to's are:

• Paprika

• Steins;Gate

Visit some of the National Parks, aka America's best idea.

Yeah, I figured they're probably not going to see much of my money, but was hoping having some sales would benefit them, at least in future deals even if they don't get royalties. I'm not against pirating, just wanted to show my support since I get enjoyment from their work and so there's incentive to continue putting out content (for everyone involved).

Play some guitar, watch some basketball, and replace a fence post.

If they require low/no VOCs, I used Vermont Natural Coatings / Bohme. It's held up pretty well for the last 18 months of medium use/rain/sun. Though I only used cedar for the fascia, the doug fir I used for the decking still has a warm, golden color.

For comics, I really liked Calvin and Hobbes.

Yep, their site is a marvel of organization and refreshing in how minimalist it has remained. These days it seems every e-commerce site hits you with email sign up pop-ups, sales banners, etc.

Decent at some and a beginner at others. Tbh, I have more hobbies than time to practice and really get good at all of them. So progress is slow, but I enjoy each one of them and don't want to give up any just yet. Guess I'm taking the scenic route to mastery, maybe by the time I retire I'll be really cooking. And if not, I still would consider it time well spent.

In addition to self-hosting, I'll throw out a few other alternatives:

Free:

• hoopla or OverDrive/Libby via local library membership
• LibroVox public domain books read by users

Paid:

• For a user experience closer to Audible, I went with libro.fm. You can pick a local, independent bookstore that gets a portion of the sales. Their catalog is pretty extensive as well, have been able to find most books I'm interested in. Books are DRM-free and you can pause your membership.
• Downpour - DRM-free as well

DRM-free is important IMO because otherwise you're at the mercy of the platform and if the company ever changes its Terms of Use or wipes your account, you lose your purchases. Amazon have remotely deleted books from users' libraries in the past or replaced them with modified copies (e.g. Roald Dahl books). Kindle announced last month they won't let you download your eBooks via USB so it's possible Audible could see changes for the worse in the future as well.

Yep, have a few Lost Art Press books and they're all great. If you're into or want to learn hand tool woodworking, they're great resources. They're also not dry textbooks, I've gotten a laugh from Chris's writing (check out the LAP blog or substacks) on more than one occasion.

Time is a flat circle

Anyone adjusting their strategy given the recent volatility and ongoing uncertainty? Mostly staying the course over the long run but interested in capital preservation in the event the economy starts to spiral. Curious what others are doing.
