Explaining software development methods by flying to Mars
  • The art style is nice but the content makes no sense. Kanban and scrum are parts of agile. They are not their own systems.

Lean also doesn't mean you have no money. It's a system of manufacturing where you cross train people to do the jobs on either side of them so they can pick up slack if needed and keep things moving without hiring more people.

  • you don't need more 4GB of RAM
  • The reason vscode is so popular is because it is far more efficient than the electron app it's based on. Atom was slow and the worst resource hog I've ever seen.

The plugin ecosystem and great built-in support for the most popular languages keep it popular.

  • Seems appropriate today...
  • The pictures do not do it justice. I have yet to see a picture that accurately captures what I saw. Seeing just the mass ejection coronas was incredible.

It was like everything else stopped existing for that brief few minutes. There were clouds in the sky but I luckily was in an area that was clear during totality. I've never seen anything like it and will certainly travel to see it again.

  • West Virginia governor signs law removing marital assault exemption
  • This is not about beating your wife. It's more about rape or forced sex. There are actually lots of places that marriage is still a defense to say you are allowed to force your spouse to have sex since you're married.

Good for WV for removing that. I think a lot of women will still not know they have options.

  • That is still just one specific measure. They will also have a specific definition of what they consider spam. What I have found, admittedly anecdotally, is that the results just don't answer the search anymore. The results aren't spam they just aren't good.

DDG did have better results in one major instance for me in figuring out an error message that Google gave me literally no results. DDG has several appropriate answers that LED me to a solution. I don't think that will stay the case overall but Google does need to do better.

  • It's ok to not know something. You don't have to share an opinion that has no basis.

If you've ever done multi-day outside activities in the cold, you learn really quick to not wear cotton socks or under layers. Your sweat is what makes you cold because cotton will no longer provide a warm layer. Wool still has air pockets and will keep you warmer and may save your life or limbs.

Are you going to be comfortable in wet wool? No, but you have a better chance of surviving and not getting frostbite.

  • The foot gonna rob a bank
  • I have almost exclusively darn tough socks now and have for over 15 years at this point. I do eventually get worn areas in them but I never let them get anywhere near this bad. A small section of padding worn out is enough for DT to replace them for me. My main hobby is backpacking though so they get used hard and often. I would guess they last somewhere around 500 miles per pair for the micro crews. The business socks are also nice but wear out faster.

  • Calls for Starbucks boycott grow amid aggressive union-busting activities
  • It's not the sugar that makes the coffee taste bad. It's that they over roast it. Their medium is basically a dark roast.

That said, yes the bigger issue is what they have become as a company and how badly they treat their employees.

  • Don't give Elon more money.
  • You've never driven one have you? Electric motors are crazy powerful and it's all torque. My Prius can accelerate faster than my Tacoma. What you are seeing in people driving a Prius is trying to save gas by not accelerating hard. Just because they often don't doesn't mean they can't when it's needed.

  • Exemployees of a company, what was your "fuck this shit I'm out moment"?
  • That vacation policy change sounds like it was a huge improvement. I find it odd you didn't agree with that? The numbers should be higher but it's much more fair. Holiday pay should never depend on vacation time, that's just cruel.

  • She gets very dramatic if we're late for our walk

This is not a sleepy pose. This is getting ready to go crazy.

  • It's funny because you are just doing the same thing in a different way. Tomatoes and mushrooms have msg naturally. The ketchup is mostly about adding some sugar.

A secret ingredient in a lot of sauces is anchovy paste and it's partly for the msg. It does make a sauce taste great though.

  • Pets do not significantly benefit the emotional health of owners with severe mental illness, study shows
  • I understand where you're coming from and as a kid that sucks to be responsible for someone who is supposed to be caring for you.

Anecdotally, when I had mild depression I found the responsibility of a dog really helped me. It got me on daily walks and a schedule that helped me mentally. The cuddle part is nice but the responsibility is what I think really helped pull me out of a slump.

It's not for everyone and certainly not if you don't like dogs. Also actually severe mental issues need meds. The dog can't fix what is truly wrong in those cases.
