TIL in the Carboniferous Period, no fungus existed to decompose trees. They just grew on top of each other up and up.
  • At some point this will happen with plastics too. Soo much plastic is ending up in nature, with soo much energy ready for the taking. When one fungus or bacteria mutates just right to munch on that feast of plastic, that vast energy source will ensure that organism multiplies rapidly.

And that is when plastic stops beeing useful for many of the tasks we humans use it for. If your plastic container decomposes as rapidly as a cardboard box, it will quickly become much less usefull.

  • to those of you who get bored at work if there's lots of downtime, why?
  • I want to feel like what I do matters, otherwise I become frustrated and feel bad. My basic drive for curiosity is very strong, and I need to learn new things and do something that has some sort of meaning.

Being paid to do nothing is soo frustrating, I feel like I am wasting what little time I have here on earth.

  • Parents Should Pay Higher Taxes
  • Individuals choosing not to have kids should pay an extra tax that should go to the ones having children.

Choosing not to have children is a perfecly acceptable individual choice, but the consequence is that you become a net negative for the economy.

Taking on the burden of child-raising is an essential task that is net positive for the economy, which has been way underappreciated for too long.

  • Gotta love forgetting to take my meds
  • I have an app where I register when I take my meds, and which meds.

I make sure to absolutely always tap the app while taking the meds. No taking meds and then going to find the phone, or tapping the app and then take the meds. Always do it simoultaniously.

With that rule in place, I know that I can 100% trust the app in telling me if I have taken them or not.

This works really great for me.

  • Moscow bars pro-peace candidate from running in presidential election
  • Why did the US suddenly become a part of this discussion?

The US is absolutely a flawed democracy, no doubt about that. However the people's vote in the elections does have a real impact on the political decisions of the country.

The amount of influence the voters have can be debated, but it is far from nothing. Thus the US elections are not purely theaterical, and therefore there is sense in having elections in the US.

  • Bug: Comment lost because of "language not allowed" error.

I had written a rather lengthy response to a post, and put quite a bit of effort in my argument. When I submitted the reply I got a "language not allowed" error, and everything I wrote was lost.

I think an error when posting something should not result in the screen changing back and losing everything written. The error should be displayed and the user allowed to fix the problem or somehow allowed to save the post locally, e.g. by copying and pasting it somewhere else.

How to put consumer-grade NVME disks in Dell R640 server?

Hi. I am trying to figure out how to get high-speed storage in my R640 server. I just want to use consumer-grade NVME disks, so I can write data at ≥ 1GByte/sec per disk. Do you have any suggestions on what hardware to choose?
