  • Material reality. People have done this before for a myriad of causes. Does it stop empire? No. Lenin never said ‘go kill yourself it totally will change everything’.

Marxism isnt a orthodoxy that needs to be followed like a religion, im not going to judge the protest actions of others if it serves to protest a ongoing genocide being comitted by that persons government.

I run a homeless shelter. Thats at least one thing you could do that is far better than killing yourself for a cause. In fact, anything is better.

Firstly, cool. That doesnt change anything about how much you're smugging over a dead person rather than allowing it to inspire.

  • Did Bushnell doing this do anything? No.

    Says who? You?

The people detracting this as 'nothing' are clearly so comfy in there own situations they cant imagine any action, nevermind a strong one like this having an impact.

    Thats your problem.

  • The OPSEC idea behind this isnt worried about being tracked in real time by the police at the protest, the highest risk is it being used in court after the fact to prove you where there, and nearby illegal stuff happening; thats why you leave it at home, not just bring it turned off, they can still use that to say 'you where here'

  • no what comes first is an observation...which you can make about anything...including society...

  • only a self inflated STEM-oid would take a joke in the OP and use it to delegitmamize an entire field of science based on vibes

having a BA in physics doesnt make you able to disprove social sciences, dont be like bobby fischer.

  • I get where you’re going but on the other side of your fear of the state you are denied release from what could be immense suffering because the state deems it.

Often times its the state causing the immense suffering...

Modern psychology really misses the mark in the sense often times its just treating the symptoms so they can get you back to work as quickly as possible.

Im more interested in restorative justice with psychology, as well as treating the symptoms; we should be treating the causes too...

Body autonomy is a myth, 'biopower' is a concept that has been utilized since the industrial age, the role of the structres of society are to keep you healthy enough to work.

Regardless, I caveeted that yes, if you're physically about to die and under immense suffering id support these actions. In a privatesed health system with an aging demographic though you cannot prevent abuses of power from happening with assisted suicide; family members pressuring mentally ill family members into an early suicide to remove there care burden, people doing it for inheritance, people thinking they have a uncurable mental illness when in reality the effective treatments are denied to them (I think of PTSD war sufferers denied MDMA which is proven 90%+ effective in treating PTSD who go onto kill themselves...)

There are so many ethical concerns with this stuff that only takes a little foresight to see how bad it would be in reality.

  • My arguements against this are the same as my arguements against the death penalty.

People make mistakes, even those who wish to die. Im not trusting the state with the power to kill me, even if its by assisted suicide.

I only support this for people who are terminally ill and about to die.

  • This is the first response that I think is actually engaging with my question.

Every single comment in this thread has fully engaged with your question, your inability to percieve that or your ego getting in the way isnt a failure on there parts, I havent seen one take in this thread I dont agree with. Most of them are poking at the american liberal exceptionalism you're displaying, where you're presenting this topic as a A:B situation.

The most effective way to save those people wouldnt be an induvidual act of pulling the lever, then running to untie the millions of tied down people. Its organizing into a large collective and dealing with the problem at its origin, not at its symptoms.

Break the tracks, save the people as a collective, no empty solutions that continue to perputate the endless cycle of violence.

  • The mass delusion and wool over the eyes of the true believers of liberal democracy is honestly astounding.

I dont know if its because the media blacks out stuff like this or if people know all of this but still choose to ignore it because of misplaced tribalism/football team politics where the goal isnt to make life better, the goal is to win, at all and any costs.

  • In terms of the trolley problem that would be if you could instantaneously pull the lever while simultaneously attempting to get people off or derail the train or sabotaging the track.

Because pulling the lever adds legitmancy to the people who tied those people to the rails and made you choose, you agreed to play there game, you particpiated and are culpable.

  • This is the real answer

  • The 'simplified' formulation is vote for and participate in a third party that doesnt advocate for genocide and preaches intersectional rights.

You might say 'well biden is nice to lgbt+ people!' but this is just ignoring the literal largest prison population, in history, in america, that is using the slave labor of black and white leftists predominantly.

There is no good option in this, when presented with two bad options the correct response is not to play.
