Riven remake launches June 25
  • It definitely does obscure the fact that the PC version includes VR itself. I’ll buy it for Quest and PC myself simply to support the studio and hopefully help make sure they produce games for a few more decades!

When they first announced the remake they didn’t mention anything about native Quest support, but they did talk about PCVR initially (which was the day I finally invested in VR hardware). I’m honestly surprised they got it running on the Quest, though it does look like they had to reduce detail by quite a lot to get to perform decently on the Quest.

  • Riven remake launches June 25
  • For this particular game the PC version will support PCVR via Steam (and probably other ways as well).

  • Disco Version of TOS theme with awesome brass and kickass flute solo
  • Exactly what I was expecting! Definitely read it wrong.

  • Who else could do such a thing?!?
  • Oh wow, I had this one. It was the last MAD Magazine I ever bought. I wonder if I still have it…

  • Canon Connections: DIS 5x03 - Jinaal
  • Thanks for doing these, I always enjoy reading them!

  • Hackintosh is (almost) dead
  • It really is! I can’t wait for the future where I take a couple cheap and used M1 Mac minis and run Linux servers on them.

  • Hackintosh is (almost) dead
  • Yes, there absolutely is a lot of integrations and even if a consumer level SoC existed that could run arm64 macOS, it might not last long as all Apple would have to do is slightly change some aspect of their particular architecture and it would stop working. I don’t expect it to ever happen, but then again, I never expected macOS on x86 either.

Asahi, by the way, it’s astounding how far they’ve come with porting over to Apple Silicon. I haven’t had the itch strong enough yet to give it a go, but I will eventually.

  • Hackintosh is (almost) dead
  • An interesting and, sadly, accurate read. I will miss building my Hacks, but I knew as soon as Apple announced their switch to arm64 that the good times were over.

Maybe sometime in the future we’ll have a powerful and open arm64 system that we can somehow run Apple Silicon macOS on?

  • Creation Brings Back Regional Star Trek Conventions Starting In San Francisco This Weekend, Chicago In Fall
  • I would love it if local conventions started popping up everywhere again. I haven’t been to one since 1991.

  • Today I finally finished my office background MSD
  • That is just awesome! I’d love to see some of the lighting effects.

  • What movie or show you didn't know was THAT good until you watched it?
  • Just about to start a rewatch of The Wire for the first time in 14 years. Gonna be great!

  • What movie or show you didn't know was THAT good until you watched it?
  • I love Moon! Such a fantastic sci-fi movie. I always suggest that one to folks looking to watch one.

  • [Update] Version 0.19 Upgrade - Done!
  • I’m curious, what is the sitemap endpoint used for generally?

  • Windows 11 now supports USB4 at 80Gbps, also known as USB 4 2.0 | Faster USB4 devices could start appearing in 2024
  • It is absolutely infuriating. It blows my mind that you can have a USB 3.2 Gen2 cable that does everything you need it to, except for the fact that it doesn’t support Power Delivery and a lot of the time you won’t even know, so if you’re sending high wattage through it there’s a real possibility you’re gonna burn some to kind up.

  • Windows 11 now supports USB4 at 80Gbps, also known as USB 4 2.0 | Faster USB4 devices could start appearing in 2024
  • I know, it is a never ending source of minor comedy that “Universal” is right there in the name.

  • Windows 11 now supports USB4 at 80Gbps, also known as USB 4 2.0 | Faster USB4 devices could start appearing in 2024
  • “USB 4 2.0”… someone should really do something about the incredibly goofy naming scheme.

  • Bluesky federation goes live
  • It is more complicated than that. There are multiple different server components that make up Bluesky and its federation. The PDS (Person Data Server) is what they’re mostly talking about in that press release. You can however run all three major server components yourself and setup a completely separate network that would then federate with Bluesky proper. It’s quite different to Mastodon and other ActivityPub services (where you setup a Mastodon, Lemmy, WriteFreely, etc… instance and then federate).

Still, at present it does feel a little pointless.

  • Whenever the AT protocol of BlueSky is set for others to deploy, won't it have similar problems as ActivityPub instances?
  • Oh wow, that’s really cool! I’ll definitely take it for a spin. I’ve been thinking that something like this would be great.

  • Whenever the AT protocol of BlueSky is set for others to deploy, won't it have similar problems as ActivityPub instances?
  • From what I’ve read of this, it’s basically already done. The developer is just waiting for AT Protocol federation. I’m not sure how to feel about how it works though, it’s got some quirks because of the differences in the protocols.
