  • Turians are hierarchical, Spartan, and disciplined. Garrus is all those things but he's mad that Citadel cops have to obey rules and he prefers being in the much shallower hierarchy of the Normandy following a Spectre around. Asari spend their youths exploring, learning and picking up influence, which Liara does. Being social and seductive is a stereotype other asari openly deride sometimes. Wrex loves a good fight, he's just tired of krogan-on-krogan violence specifically while Grunt is all about fighting anything with a pulse, much more like the stereotype. The quarians are a straight standin for the real Roma and stereotypes of them being lazy vagrants is pulled from real world racism. Tali isn't different from other quarians because every single one of them is a hard worker and keeps the fleet operating. In at least one of the games you learn about how quarians will dip out from the fleet to search for resources in small groups before returning. That's how you run into Tali, twice.

  • I think I could've been a Star wars nerd but I learned about the Sun Crusher or whatever it's called and how they kept inventing new superweapon macguffins culminating in the completely indestructible single-man spaceship that blows up stars. Also Luke's evil clone, Luuke, and the emperor's son Trioculus, because he had 3 eyes.

And there's a whole ass novel just about Vader's left glove because it can't be enough that he stopped Han's shot with the Force, his left glove specifically is blaster proof and we have to explore that.

  • Don't hold your breath, it's probably a bunch of oilfield workers in 21% APR lifted pickups throwing beer cans at the hogs for presuming to not let them drive drunk. You go to other provinces though and sometimes you'll have indigenous communities blowing up pipelines

  • She's a primatologist, science educator, and conservationist. She did a lot of early work with chimpanzee behavioural studies that helped to set the standard for how they're conducted, and she discovered that chimpanzees form close social bonds and use tools, stuff that was previously thought unique to humans. She campaigns for animal rights and gender equality in science.

Referencing her as a joke really ages Elon btw, since Goodall hasn't been a big media circus factor for like decades when everyone was making fun of the khaki-clad woman squatting in a forest with a bunch of apes.

  • I get so annoyed when people tell me to ask an AI something. It has no knowledge and no capacity for reason. The only thing it can do is produce an output that an inexpert human could potentially accept as true because the underlying statistics favour sequences of characters that, when converted to text and read by a human, appear to have a confident tone. People talk about AI hallucinating wrong answers and that's giving it too much credit; either everything it outputs is a hallucination that's accepted more often than not, or nothing it outputs is a hallucination because it's not conscious and can't hallucinate, it's just printing sequential characters.

  • The courts have no mechanism to enforce their decisions except the executive, so there's no check on the executive misbehaving if Congress decided to not remove him from office for ignoring the courts, and since Congress is complicit nothing will be done unless some radicalized shooter aims slightly more to the left next time.

  • When Roiland was around the shows ideology was cruel nihilism, specifically about how caring made you stupid and weak and ugly. South Park type shit. With him gone Harmon has made it more ideologically about existential absurdism: the characters, in the face of infinity, find meaning in their relationships with each other. Still full of fart jokes and Rick being a piece of shit but it's less callous about caring.

  • Before the patches, Gale's romance meter would fill up really really fast and off of non-flirty, friendly interactions. "Sure Gale, I'd like to hear more about magic some time but I'm busy now" would basically be enough for him to become aggressively interested in you, fuelling a lot of Nice Guy type jokes about him
