Review quotes for TV writer’s forthcoming memoir have caused online debate

> > Two of the UK’s top comedy stars, Richard Ayoade and Jonathan Ross, have received backlash on social media after reviewing The IT Crowd writer Graham Linehan’s memoir. > > > > Irish scribe Linehan has gone from the writer of much-loved Channel 4 comedies The IT Crowd, Father Ted and Black Books to an outspoken anti-transgender activist in recent years, leading many in the UK and Ireland to boycott him. > > > > He fell out of public favour after several incidents where he expressed anti-transgender or transphobic views, including comparing the use of puberty blockers to Nazi eugenics and experiments on children. > > > > Linehan has repeatedly expressed his belief that he is a victim of cancel culture, and that his views have lost him work and caused his divorce. > > > > ... > > > > Some early reviews of the book have been included as part of its online marketing. One notable name quoted alongside the memoir is Linehan’s former IT Crowd colleague, Ayoade, who played shy computer technician Maurice Moss in the Channel 4 comedy. > > > > Ayoade’s quote reads: “Graham Linehan has long been one of my favourite writers – and this book shows that his brilliance in prose is equal to his brilliance as a screenwriter. It unfolds with the urgency of a Sam Fuller film: that of a man who has been through something that few have experienced but has managed to return, undaunted, to tell us the tale.” > > > > A review from Ross hails Linehan as “one of the best TV comedy writers of all time”. The quote goes on to declare the book “a must-read for anyone who has ever wondered: a) how to create a hit sit-com and b) how it feels to lose everything. It’s funny, complicated and utterly compelling”. > > > > ... > > > > Journalist and transgender activist India Willoughby wrote: “The Richard Ayoade endorsement of Graham Linehan is really disappointment – because at this point in the gender war, you’d have to use a lot of cognitive dissonance not to see Glinner for who he is.”

- Bitwarden. Didn't take long to start supporting them as the price point is incredibly reasonable.
- Mastodon (monthly donation to instance admin)
- Some random Android apps which have a paid/plus version and a free one. I use my free Google credits to upgrade, so doesn't actually cost me anything but supports the developer. I tihnk the first I did this with was ACalendar.
Available on BBC iPlayer in the UK. Very funny parody of educational TV shows. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00bt6f2

Did you create the community? If so I think you need to "transfer community" to another mod first. You should then see the option to "leave mod team" where the trashcan icon is on your screenshot.
Missing winter sea ice signals changes that could be a "disaster for the world", scientists say.
The sea-ice surrounding Antarctica is well below any previous recorded winter level, satellite data shows, a worrying new benchmark for a region that once seemed resistant to global warming.
- linen.dev will sync to Discord and then allow indexing. The owner of the Discord server will need to set it up though, so probably doesn't help unless it's your own Discord.
Oh, thank you very much! Will send you a DM.
I'd just like to take the blame for two separate Imaginary posts here in a row. I posted not realising this would be posted a matter of hours later!
Probably a better word! I'm not sure where I was going with that.
I've created this and got it indoctrinated into the Federated Network of Imaginary Communities. So there's a now a dedicated community where you can post your fairy/faerie art.
One of these should work:
- !imaginaryfairies@lemmings.world
- !imaginaryfairies@lemmings.world
- @imaginaryfairies@lemmings.world (for kbin)
I do, but I'm on a waitlist (and don't want to selfhost) so I've not been able to try it out yet (I don't make calls through WhatsApp, so I see the lack of support as a benefit).
There's a little edit button in the sidebar under the community name and next to "leave mod team". The save button is at the bottom one you've made changes.
WhatsApp has already started working on interoperability with other messaging apps following EU crackdown on gatekeeper services
SUMMARY
- The EU has identified WhatsApp as a gatekeeper in the messaging industry and has given it a few months to enable interoperability with other apps.
- The EU's Digital Markets Act aims to promote fair competition and give consumers more options for alternative services.
- WhatsApp has already begun working on interoperability with other apps, potentially allowing smaller players like Signal to compete more fairly.
On Connect, the latter works but the former doesn't. Weirdly if I click on my own username posted upthread, it can't find me.
Kbin does odd things with links and communities, so I think part of the problem is it has mangled or added some unexpected links when you've written the post. However, some of your links in the original post work for me on Lemmy (!freegames@feddit.uk is fine), so you might want to compare them.
I'm not sure why Lemmy uses an exclamation mark for communities when everywhere else uses an @. It would be a lot easier if it used @ then it's universal for Kbin, Mastodon, Lemmy.
The new communities group suggests to use the format I've used in my previous posts (basically /c/community@instance) - this won't work on Kbin because it uses /m/. It's better to use @ there as you said.
No problem, have added all the ones I know about.
OK, so will probably miss loads, but try these for starters. Where I've found multiple for the same platform the more active ones are nearer the top.
!amiga@kbin.social (Kbin)
!commodore64@kbin.social (Kbin)
!zxspectrum@kbin.social (Kbin)
!atari@lemmy.sdf.org (Atari 8-bits, can't find one for the ST)
As for platforms, there are a load of retro ones which can be added, not sure if you want to include those?
The Lost Daughter co-stars reunite for an embarrassingly unfunny misfire, starring as neighbours at war over obscene letters
Somehow this one star review from The Guardian makes me want to see it more.
The trending communities bot started using spoiler tags and it broke connect. I'll try to put an example here:
Test spoiler
Link to something don't click random links!
Basically it only shows code not the formatted version when inside a spoiler tag.
Basically it's ignoring all tags inside the spoiler, so it shows the code instead. I'll post on the support community. (edit: posted here - hopefully it'll be fixed soon)
Links hidden in spoilers don't work in Connect...
If I swipe a comment to the left to reveal the upvote, but don't fully swipe it and instead swipe back to cover it up, the upvote action still happens.
This bug seems to be present everywhere where swiping items is possible. I keep dismissing things accidentally by attempting to cancel an action!
