  • I didn’t check the instance rules

Mistakes happen, but it is on you.

I don’t care enough to beg for readmission.

But you do care enough to type words and words and words somewhere else, no?

I’m just pointing out that they are being weird

I politely disagree. What you're viewing as mechanical censorship is just community curation to them. Part of "power tripping" implies they are abusing power, and I don't see them preventing you from participating with anything you appreciate. There's plenty of other AI communities on lemmy.

    In summary, a comic:

  • I think Skiluros is right on the money, but I'm just going to point out something. (Disclamer: I am a regular reader of tech takes and I enjoy their snarky negativity)

You walked into a hater's club with a rule of "no debates", debated the regular posters, and got banned. Is it heavy handed? Maybe, but it is low-effort moderation. I get the feeling if they didn't moderate similarly to this, they would be able to preserve the vibe of the place (and you are not obligated to like or agree with this vibe). They're allowed to have their own corner of the internet.

I think they'd probably reverse it if you asked them to. I base this on the idea that instance bans are easy to hand out, and asking politely for an unban is something most banned people don't bother to do. I could be wrong.

I bet they get absolutely flooded with folks who just want to debate instead of joining in on the sneering. It's gotta be way lower effort to just ban people. It's not like there's any large communities on that instance (Look at their local front page: buttcoin, sneerclub, techtakes. All hater's clubs, many posts months old on "active" setting), so I don't think they're doing real harm, either. It's not like you were instance banned from like, lemmy.world or something.

There's plenty of other communities to discuss AI on lemmy. IMHO, you're just missing the point of techtakes. You don't have to agree with them, just like they aren't required to refute your youtube video.

  • I feel the need to say I completely agree with you. Normally when people quote me I think they are arguing with me idk.

    fistbump

Edit: Tell me why you are downvoting me, you cowards!

  • And? Does this mean he is immune to criticism because he's not Trump? This is a pretty big fuckup, even if it's an accident.

  • oh! it's you!

The person on reddit that starts all comments with "well actually,"

    Can I have an autograph?

  • I am the wife.

Unrelated, why aren't there more women in Linux spaces? We'll never get to the bottom of it I fear. I haven't read the comments in this thread yet, I'm sure they're all completely uncontroversial.

  • ...my stats professor is a programmer, though. Are you not talking about high level statistics courses? A lot has changed since R and Rstudio has been developed. (It's FOSS!). All of my assignments are either proofs in LaTeX or questions that involve programming.

( If you're in a stats course and using excel, you are learning stats for babies. Your class has business majors in it.)

  • Counterpoint: how would you ensure each go fund me actually goes to this guy's defense and not some random scammer? Apparently his family is wealthy. I'm assuming all those go fund me pages are "unofficial" and not associated with him.

  • I've lost patience with my species

I hate that this is what I've become

Why should anyone value what you have to say? Are you just here to expose us to your misanthrope?

Human life is not more inherently valuable than the cow

    Become vegan, you'll feel better

  • Drag doesn't like you

Alright Drag, that's fine. I usually respect what you have to say that's why I took the time to type all that out. I'll stay out of your replies in the future.

I'm just going to point out the criteria is "maladaptive" not being a Karen sometimes, so I don't agree with your ratings. Being a pain in the ass sometimes isn't the same as having something so wrong with your personality that you need a pathological label.

It sounds like you are being the thought police

I'm pointing out a word people have used for thousands of years to reference antisocial behavior really shouldn't be called ableism, because when you do that, you weaken the word ableism. That's hardly thought policing.

  • Taking words away from people that they use to describe their abusers (narcissist, psychopath) is going to hurt people who don't deserve it (schizophrenia, etc) when you lump it all together as abelism. That's my point.

In my opinion, they did put abuser disorder in the DSM. Here's the diagnosis criterion for NPD (need 5/9, must be maladaptive) Notice how its just the description of an emotionally abusive person, when you need 5 and its gotta be bad enough to affect your life?

A grandiose sense of self-importance (exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

Preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

Believing that they are "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

    Requiring excessive admiration

A sense of entitlement (unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with their expectations)

Being interpersonally exploitative (taking advantage of others to achieve their own ends)

Lacking empathy (unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others)

Often being envious of others or believing that others are envious of them

Showing arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

This is from Wikipedia, btw, I dont own the manual and cant find it online. DSM is just a guide to help psychiatrists give treatment to people who need help, not a list of descriptors you can no longer use.

  • Drag, I get where you're coming from, but don't you think those three groups are different?

Schizo? Schizo ppl are harmless and don't deserve to have something fundamental to their mental state used as an insult. I completely agree with you here.

Narcissist? This wasn't always a diagnosis and doesn't always refer to one. I don't see anything wrong with using this as an insult. Defending it under ableism kinda feels like calling the word "abuser" abelist - sure, abusive people probably also struggle with mental health.

Psychopath? That's also pretty hard to defend.

Honesty I think you'd be better off pointing out how these people aren't mentally ill and are fully culpable for what they do, instead of labeling it all abelist.

The word Schizo definetly doesn't belong here, that is abelist. Peterson isn't schizo he's a close minded misandrist.

  • Why use dice and simple math to solve a problem, when we can use an enormous pile of circuitry, electricity and vector calculus to get an algorithmically determined string of text that contains a probabilistically likely description of the correct dice to roll?

  • Counterpoint: all of those jobs have workers who know they are being filmed. This was done without this woman's consent, secretly.

  • I think this picture is a joke, however, some people have a sneezing kink. I am sorry to deliver this information.

In highschool my friends and I challenged each other to find the worst fanfictions we could possibly unearth.

Harry Potter sneezefic took 2nd place (looking back, it was about children... gross! but we were kids, and this was probably written by a kid? Life is mysterious.)
