  • Okay so there is this whole arguement going on about The Altars how apparently a tiny piece of background art has AI generated text in it. Personally I feel that's absolutely fine, as otherwise it would have just been Lorem Ipsum, and really doesn't need to be declared but technically, under the strictest interpretation of that tag, it should be declared even though you can't even see it unless you zoom in.

I would very much like valved actually come up with a concrete policy rather than a vague one-line statement.

  • I do not understand what the hell the AI is supposed to even do. Like great okay so let's say they get to the point that it's trained and can do the job of a human then what. If you replace everyone with AI then no one will have any jobs and no one will have any money so who are the AI businesses going to sell products too?

  • Did PayPal actually make valve remove them or did PayPal just say they didn't want to provide payment processors for them and valve couldn't be bothered to come up with a solution?

I can't see why Paypal would care one way or the other if the games were available on the platform as long as PayPal don't have to process the payment.

  • Having a jealous partner is absolutely awful. They only think they want this they absolutely don't.

I had a friend who had a jealous boyfriend and he was convinced I was trying to sleep with her, at one point he tried to challenge me to a fight for her love or something. When I told him I wasn't interested in her he got really mad and accused me of insulting his girlfriend. Unsurprisingly she ended up dumping him which frankly the entire friend group was relieved by.

These people are nutcases if they think they want that

  • The way that valves AI tag works is kind of a problem.

There is no subtlety to it at all, if you use AI in any capacity during the development of the game you need to declare it via that tag yet all the tag then does is say "AI in this game", but there's a big difference between having the AI develop the entire story or produce all of the artwork, and having AI write boilerplate camera controls for a farming simulator.

  • Good God what an absolutely ridiculous article, I would be ashamed to write that.

Most fundamentally of course is the fact that the laws are robotics are not intended to work and are not designed to be used by future AI systems. I'm sure Asimov would be disappointed to say the least to find out that some people haven't got the message.

  • You pay for your doctor visit with taxes.

Oh you're one of them. Real relation that you're providing everyone there.

Except it's actually not strictly speaking true, yeah everyone pays some taxes and some of those taxes go to healthcare but it's not a separate tax, it's just part of the tax everyone pays. Some of it goes to healthcare, but some of it goes to road maintenance, some the police. It's all just in a big lump of tax.

It's not as if your tax rate goes up depending on your health. You pay the same amount of tax regardless of your current medical status so to say you pay for health with tax is a rather disingenuous.

  • I'm not working today, yet I'm still being paid thanks to employment law ensuring full paid time off.

No, obviously we'd be much better under the American style hyper-capitalist system. Especially now.

  • I'm assuming you were talking about the London riots, there were a few days of violence but it was only idiots who were after a free TV and PlayStation, and of course the one unimaginative guy who famously stole some rice and then posted about it on Facebook. But of course no one has any guns so once the police turn up everyone tends to calm down.

  • You get that hacking isn't magic right. In order to "hack it" the files actually have to be available on the public network. If they're just on an internal file system you would have to be on site to get access.
